I feel like a idiot but what was the respond time? Within 5-7 minutes my street was blocked off, I received

a call from the Police dept. and they ask me to walk outside and describe what I am wearing. There were

a dozen cops in front of my house.Man I felt like an ass.I was told to stay outside while they check my home.

They realized I pushed the wrong button by mistake but they still walked through the house.

I apologized for my stupidity because it took them away from more important duties. The officer in charge

told me no problem and thank me for serving in the military, he noticed my military photo while checking my home.

My point the respond time in my city is amazing, how is it in your city???

Unfortunately the Police don't receive credit for all their duties. Over the years I have had encounters with

our local Police and I must say in our small city we have one of the best Police dept. in Southern Calif.

Talking with one of the officers outside while the other officers checking my home told me we must

keep it a secret, our community is very safe...

I still feel like an idiot, I will catch hell from the old lady when she get home.

The overall crime rate in my city is 31% lower than the national average. We are safer than 61% of

cities in the U.S. There is a 1 in 49 chance of becoming a victim of ANY crime.

This is all due to our Police Dept. I may add I only live three blocks from our Police station.

I think I remember you saying you're in California, so whatever town you're in I'm now sure you're not in Compton.

I remember back in the 70's my aunt's house was broken into so she bought a burglar alarm, when she was away for a few days, if no a whole week it went off non-stop until she returned. Her neighbor called us but we didn't have a key to the house, I guess the police can't break into a house to turn off alarms, but then again like I said this was back in the 70's.

No not in Compton, I don't think a alarm system will do any good there. LOL

Florida law requires that the alarm company contact predesignated person(s) or key holder before police can be dispatched. False alarms cost $50 per occurrence in our area. Our alarm company calls within about a minute of an alarm.

SadElder: Yes the same here"contact predesignated person or key holder" the alarm company unable to

reach the wife. I would be happy to pay the $50 false alarm if they bill me, no problem...

I accidentally set off alarm at my son's house. I shut it off before it was supposed to go to police. The company never called my son, but 3-4 hours later a swat team(ok, 8-10 cop cars, cops in full safety bulletproof gear ) showed up.

Son hates the security service, but the contract won't let them out. Having the police show up 3 hours after a REAL emergency is useless. Obviously where they are, it's just a fortune down the drain. They could have dismembered us and cleaned up the mess by then!

JWdaughter" Wow, "swat team", that's scary....Your son, did he pay any money for the false alarm???

I dont think so because the machine showed that I turned it off in time. The 3 hour delay didnt get him out if contract though. The alarm company may have had a fine since they wrongly dispatched them. Crazy thing is that police station was 3 miles away, easy quick trip and it was a weekday morn, not a high crime timing. I thought it was the mormons who showed up regularly and just peeked out because my two years old granddaughter is an escape artist. Quite a morning!

I found the panic keys in my desk (we never even lock the doors) and made the mistake of leaving one of them on top of the desk. My wife saw it while I was at work and was curious about it. Of course since it had a button she had to press it several times - and then many more times. When I got home she had strange stories to tell me about our security service. It took me a few minutes to figure out what must have happened. At least we know it works...
