TIME TO MAKE THE DONUTS!!!!

Does anyone remember the ad campaign for Dunkin Donuts back in the 1980's? It featured a guy named "Fred" responding to his alarm clock as though he were a spokesman for the Pavlov's Dogs theory.

Any time that damn bell rang (mostly in the middle of the night), Fred would bolt out of bed and say, "Time to make the donuts!" He was a donut-making machine, I tell you!

Anyhow, some have questioned why the JW's respond certain ways. I'd read a couple of posts in the last couple of weeks that got me to thinking that the JWs have automated responses to everything, much like Fred the Baker. This actually prevents them from having to think about what they are doing and why.

JWs responses have been crafted and perfected for decades.

    • That's apostate thinking!
    • The new light is constantly being refined!
    • Wipe the dust off your feet!
    • This good news of the kingdom will be preached. (After which Jehovah will destroy 99.6% of the earth's inhabitants, LOL)
    • The time left is shrinking!
    • Those whom Jehovah loves, he disciplines!
    • The Governing Body are appointed at Jehovah's direction (I'll admit, this is my personal favorite. Jehovah had crazy luck to find 11 old white guys and a token black dude in the publishing capital of the world who would listen to him exclusively. I mean, what are the odds!?!?!?!?)
    • This generation will by no means pass away!
    • Jehovah's Celestial Chariot stops for no man!
    • Narrow is the way and few are the ones finding it!

These types of catch-phrases, when viewed outside of JW context, mean absolutely nothing! They are merely responses that become a mechanism for others in the group to agree and feel that they belong.

The anger and wrath that some of us feel when we disagree that JW's are "Christ's Bridegroom" "Mother Organization"--you would think that a loving, Christian response would be the way to go. But the triggered response can be easily predicted. Just like Frank the Baker, you know what the response is going to be.

    TIME TO MAKE THE DONUTS.

    Yep! Been an interesting week!

"Mind control," "Preaching slowdown," "Swan song," "I happen to like JWs/WT..."

Very interesting how much of a common theme there is through all these threads.

Cult researchers have a name for those kinds of responses: Thought-stoppers.

The person is so inculcated (where have we heard THAT word before?) with these automatic replies, that any logical or rational thought processes are effectively stopped. Remember all those parts on the Service Meeting designed to Overcome Objections™ from householders?? Remember the same point of counsel on the Ministry School Score Card? We were being trained, not in logical, critical, or rational thinking (as the WTS wanted us to believe we were), but in actually switching OFF those processes in favor of canned, meaningless, thought-stopping platitudes.

    Pretty sneaky, huh?

Let's not forget a popular field service saying,

"If we didn't preach, Jehovah will make the rocks preach."

Now, I don't know about anybody else, but I would be more impressed if a rock started telling me about the Kingdom of God than a couple of brainless wonders at my door trying to stuff a magazine in my hand.

Amen, Jayhawk. Show me a talking rock, you got yourself a Return Visit, LOL.

Other "automated" but meaningless responses include:

    • Like a dog returning to it's vomit
    • The one isolating himself is seeking his own selfish desire
    • We are in the end times.
    • The love of the greater number is cooling off!
    • Jehovah is "speeding up" the work in it's own time

    Feel free to add.
