"No need for the delusion of the supernatural because the very task of becoming truly human is a colossal achievement." Rudiger Safransky

I think this means stop believing in fairy tales and get on with your life and be who your supposed to be and not some delusions of the herd's imaginary friend, shit on religious indoctrination and become what your DNA wants you to become. Not some religious or government herd clone but an individual free from bullshit indoctrination.

I think he meant more than that. Being truly human encompasses such a wide spectrum of things! A lot of those things get left behind or ignored because our "survival" doesn't require them. Things like friendship, loyalty, appreciation of beauty, empathy, don't really put food on the table but they make for a rich life.

Doing supernatural things by a super-human person cannot inspire human beings who would reason “he can do it, but we are humans.” A flying eagle sets no example for wingless beings.

Humans need no lessons from others. He knows what action makes him happy and what makes him sorrowful when it is done by others. This gives him a pattern to behave with others.

it references being “truly human”. Its a quote designed to make us think about and appreciate the fact that being human is more than a function of birth and dna. Simply being alive and beathing as a “human” dosent make us “truly human”. He is encouraging us all to asipire to the very best qualities in humanity, to cultivate and put work into that which make us the best people and in referencing the “delusion of the supernatural” he reminds us that fictional gods or superheros or what ever imaginary standards humans may dream up can never exceed the real limitless possiblities of true human maturity.
