A Korean man named Lee Jin-gyr fell in love with a life sized pillow called a " darkimakura" . The pillow has the image of a cartoon character named Fate Testarossa on it from an animated cartoon Mahon Shaojo. The 28 year old man takes the pillow with him everywhere and they eventually married.
This is part of a growing subculture of men in Japan who engage in relationships with pillows that have cartoon characters on them. Whilst the above may appear absurd , even funny possibly it also takes a great deal of courage to fall in love with a " darkimakura" and it certainly offers an alternative view on masculinity. However in my opinion personally I find it sad that a person can give up on finding a real relationship. I am sure deep inside each persons soul we all want a real person.
To me a person should never feel so insecure nor should they be afraid of the risks and change, afraid of being hurt in attempting to find a partner who can offer the words " Anything you want to do, you'll do well" . Howevever I feel it wrong to laugh at a person marring a pillow, because whilst i view it as less than normal there is in my opinion nothing funny about fearing platonic and sexual rejection, and living a life subject to tears and loneliness.
What are your opinions on such marriages?
What can a person have in common with a pillow?
