Any thoughts on how I would go about setting this sort of thing up? Call me crazy, but I could really use one of these things right now, and all throughout my life. Any ideas? Legal issues that may arise? Loopholes for legal issues? Post thoughts please.
Shelter for abused children of JW's?

I was in a shelter and then later went to foster care due to the abuse by my parents (JW's at the time, dad still is one) at the age of 15.
I think it is a good idea........dont have any advice per say.........but wish you good luck.
I am not sure if you can have a shelter that only takes those of a specific relgion, but I could be wrong.
Anyhow..........I admire anyone who tries to help those who have been abused.

Interesting idea but I doubt it would work.
In any situation that involves minors you are going to have to deal with family services. Even if this was privately funded you would still need to go through family services to get the referrals and the mandate to shelter minors. In spite of what we perceive as the need I doubt family services or the courts would consider that there is a large enough need in any one area to justify a shelter and staff dedicated to the needs of one group of children and provide the funding.
Finding enough staff who are trained to understand both abuse and the special needs of these children would be a huge challenge.

There are a lot of great sites about how to start a non profit, of whatever sort you want. I recently did some research on how to do a similar thing. Just go on Yahoo and search for "non-profit" the sites are very detailed and tell you how to do your homework, how to get legal advice, you name it. I say go and do some research and then see what you think, go for it, I am interested if you want to collaborate.
