Thanks for posting that link, Lee. Excellent article by a well known expert on cults.

This case is drawing a lot of attention. Facebook is pretty active.

I think that the Canadian setting is making a difference - Canada has a public health system so the public is naturally interested. Special treatments demanded by the JWs cost all of Canada extra and the treatment that Eloise did get was expensive. And we are a small country - she was everybody's neighbor.

The blood refusal deaths don't always get media coverage but this one is an example of how much collateral damage occurs when a JW patient enters a hospital with a no blood card. So many others impacted and traumatized. This death was like a physiological and emotional bomb going off that spread its ugly shrapnel everywhere - family, friends, medical staff...the whole country is feeling the pain and wondering why

So many people are horrified by this senseless death of a young mother who had been instilled with a blood phobia from birth.

Yeah, I don't think you'd see that kind of coverage in the U.S. Hopefully, something positive can come out of it.

Another Witness, a young mother, died this month, Mirlande Louis Cadet, in Montreal Quebec after giving birth by cesarian, her death celebrated last Saturday, Oct 22. her brother alleges that the family or the liaison committee did not inform the larger family of the emergency situation. Interesting links when you google "temoins de jehovah funeraille a laval." In one of the links speaking of the previous death of E. Dupuis, the Quebec Health Minister seems to say the Liaison Committee is not a "blood police". ?.

Prologos, it seems like the recent death of Eloise prompted this story of Mirlande too.

Mirlande died on October 3rd, before Eloise did. So many JW women die due to pregnancy complications who never make it into the media.

we hope two so similar, so close in time and place deaths are a fluke, and not what goes on, untold.

The Canadian national rate for maternal death is about (fluctuates yearly) 7 per 100,000 live births. Death due to post partum hemorrhaging alone is likely the same as the States - 8% of all maternal death. Which means that Canada, per year (with just under 400,000 live births per year) should expect to have 2 maternal deaths due to post partum hemorrhaging.

2 maternal deaths due to hemorrhaging projected for a country of 36 million. And the Canadian JWs have less than 200,000 show up to their Memorial each year.

These 2 deaths, that we know of, puts the maternal mortality death rate for JW women through the roof. In Canada. A country that has one of the very lowest maternal death rates in the world.

Steve Hassan: "--unnecessary loss of life- all due to misunderstanding Jewish Kashrut law.--

and the bible story: The talking snake prevailed. The first innocent victims (Cain & Abel), then try to make amends by trial sacrifices, god indicates he likes bloody meat (that can not be eaten yet ). so, it becomes a pattern, Abraham even preparing to kill his son. then: the perfect sacrifice (Jesus). turning water into wine and blood into wine (symbolically), but even then, according to wt, the blood monopoly for god has to be maintained. at all cost, even at the cost of further human sacrifices. faith better than Abraham's,-- or worse?, all based on a talking snake story.?
