The organization figured out that a big building project gives the rank and file something to be engaged in and excited about. It distracts them from their hamster wheel life. And It buys them another 5 years until the next big thing. More shiny things and more bells and whistles and less substance

When you have millions kicking around doing nothing why not spend it o\n new technology to brainwash people and build up your membership base ?
In the past the WTS used printed literature to lure and coerce people into the organization, now they use technology, which might even be more effective, combining audio and video.
The intent is the same just done differently with modern technology.
These men should bless higher education because without it they wouldn't be able to do what they are doing now.
