My recollection of COs were they may have been very low paid almost volunteers..but they werent poor. Most appeared well dressed. I knew a few..and they were well connected with wealthy famlies. None lived in caravans ( trailers) or flats above a k hall.

Sorry about the typo in the title..fat finger ..small keyboard.

Other than living in a circuit apartment or travel trailer, most CO's seemed to live better than we did. (Now they have a full house maintained by the circuit.)

I remember a lot of them were quite young, almost a career. And quite old, already had a career with a pension. Mostly assholes.

I have seen some that came from families that lived on charity. a few had money. The smart ones worked on the side and put away the green handshakes

    STAN LIVEDEATH:

What I remember is them stepping up the fervor to pioneer. If you didn’t cave in to pressure to pioneer you were looked down on in the religion.

I always felt they were out of touch with reality - like a lot of JWs never really in the workforce. But, I let all the talk go in one ear and out the other and it’s good that I did because I planned for Retirement. Would anybody support me if I didn’t?? Nah, I didn’t think so.

From what I have read, some have done well for themselves. If not, brothers with businesses will have to help them. I have NO interest in anybody who knocked me for my full time job. Go tell somebody else.

As is normal with human nature there are many people who look up to other people with popularity or position / prominence in an organization ,and Jehovah`s witnesses have been no exception.

CO`s and DO`s have been well looked after by the rank and file believing they may have been entertaining Angels as the scriptures indicate .

Jehovah`s Witnesses are more SUPERSTITIOUS than they care to admit.

I think back in my youth most were "poor" in the sense of small income, no savings to speak of. but of course they had no living expenses to find.

One guy who stayed with us for the "visit" week, told me he took terrific care of his Meeting clothes , so as to look smart, but rarely spend on anything new.

That couple, and others who stayed in our home, were really nice modest people.

Later C.O's and D.O's may have been different, but I saw no sign of "back-handers" from our Congo. A wealthy bro in later times had a huge posh house, all the C.O's used to stay with him of course. In even later times there was an Apartment attached to a K.H they could stay in.
