From what I can tell having searched the Watchtower site and discs there seems to be no reference to this scripture as it goes against the teachings of the Watchtower. When the two sisters came to my door and I brought up the topic they were stumbled and on another JW web site the Question was asked if there was anywhere in the bible where it says that other than gods chosen people could they be saved the JW's did not accept this scripture as well.

Does is not seem odd that as one of the scriptures avoided by the Watchtower, it is so avoided that it has never sunk into there brains to have any meaning!

It says, "God loved THE WORLD so much he gave his only-begotten son....."

THE WORLD is translated from the Greek word kos*mos.

The WTS always danced around this one, saying that "world" here means mankind in general, whereas in other places "world" means world apart from Jehovah's organization.

That's a bit confusing, but I guess let the JW's believe whatever they want!

If God loves THE WORLD, then how is it that he is setting things up to destroy the 99.9% who don't read and follow the Watchtower literature?

Of course, the JW's will counter with the scripture that says "don't love the world or the things in it" .

    The Bible confuses me sometimes.

you must be 'out' for a while. Have you forgetten? "BRAINS" are not encouraged - also, they have no time to think. 5 meetings a week, field service, bible reading every day, etc., etc., etc. Their thinking is so 'used up' by nonsensical bulls**t that they have NO TIME to ruminate like the rest of us 'normal' folk.

    whaddaya think my friend?

"...He gave His only begotten son..."

Interesting... If He gave his son (not sold), why do the dubs work so hard to get approved?

What an interesting observation you have made! John 3:16 is probably the most favorite verse in the Bible next to the 23rd Psalm for most Protestants. I remember how frequently it was mentioned in the Baptist church I attended as a youth. It was one of the first verses we memorized in Sunday School.

But I never remember Jehovah's Witnesses referring to it. Now, I can see the obvious reasons. They are so anxious to see the destruction of the billions of humans on earth that they fail to see the love that God has for humankind.

I seem to remember it being quoted. Quoted enough that I remember it being quoted. Without a NWT in front of me though, I think it read a little differently. Something like "those excercising faith in him would not perish, but receive everlasting life". Just reworded a bit so that when you read it, it sort of changes a bit to fit into their doctrine.
