You know, sometimes hearing just one little thing can change your whole outlook on something. Last night I was watching the movie "The Big Kahuna" (Danny Devito, Kevin Spacey). The movie was more like a play, 95% of it was a dialogue between the 3 main characters - 3 industrial lubricant salesmen pondering some of the heavier things in life whilst trying to land the big sale (the big kahuna). Sounds like a strange premise, but the movie is quite good, I plan on watching it again before I take it back to the video store.
Anyways, at one point in the film, Danny Devito's character says to one of the other salesmen:
"God created women to be mirrors, so a man can see what an ass he is."
A profound truth imho (except the "God created" part, but that wasn't the point of it). I now understand why Islamic fundies like the Taliban and to a lesser degree Xtian fundies like JW's try to keep their women in a position of weakness. They want to mold the mirror into something that either reflects them well or not at all, or they want to put so much fear and projected inferiority into the mirror that the reflection becomes irrelevant in their mind. Because men don't like to see what asses they are.
It hit home with me especially because I tend to be a bit of a woman hater, I must admit.
Just some pointless ramblings that will probably be ignored. At any rate, I highly recommend the movie.
