    Hi Ex JW's folks

I'm a new member and have been reading some of your postings with great interest, and much laughter

In one posting there was mention of the WTS article about the new view of 'that generation' which I missed (as I was dfd at the time and missed the crucial meeting - naughty! ) but always wondered about

Could anyone inform me, preferably in some detail or point me in the right direction please

    Many thanks

    stephen

ps I was 'in' for 28 years - dfd the last 10 - (I really did spend 10 years trying to get back into an organisation which had been misleading me - ouch!)

I think it was in the Watchtower of November 1st, 1995. They modified the definition of the length of a generation.

I asked the same ? in July. I've been out 10 years too. SaintSatan gave me a really good reply. I searched tha site and found it for you. Basically the new light is that all the people born in 1914 may pass away and Armageddon still won't be here, but it's o.k. because the org. "misinterpreted" the scriptures, again.

    W. 1995 11/1 A time to keep Awake:
Rather than provide a rule for measuring time, the term "generation" as used by Jesus refers principally to contemporary people of a certain historical period, with their identifying characteristics. (p.17)
Is anything to be gained, then, by looking for dates or by speculating about the literal lifetime of a generation? Far from it! (p. 19)
...this "generation" apparently refers to the peoples of the earth who see the sign of Christ's prescence but fail to mend their ways. (p. 19)
...we need not conclude that Jesus was referring to a set number of years making up a "generation". (p. 31)

Hope this helps, and thank SaintSatan for the info. -Margy

Here is a paragraph from the1997 August 1st.Watchtower re the “Generation change”:

"Recently, 'the faithful and discreet slave' has helped us to refine our understanding of the term 'generation' used at Matthew 24:34 and of the timing of the judgment of 'the sheep' and 'the goats' mentioned at Matthew 25:31-46, as well as of our view toward certain types of civilian service. No doubt some apostates would have been delighted if many of Jehovah's Witnesses had stuck rigidly to the previous understanding of such subjects and refused to progress. Nothing of the kind has happened. Why? Jehovah's people are loyal." –

Loyal to THEIR understanding as they see fit!

I wonder how long it is going to be until the latest generation finally "gets it" and realizes that this is the same old Watchtower doing the same old tricks. This time, though, I think they might be smarter. At least those with a thinking brain and an internet provider.

What's really strange, though, is that on the official watchtower website, they present the old view. Seems the writers of that site haven't kept up with "new light"...

has helped us to refine our understanding

I love this. It's almost as if they are correcting us instead of admitting that their false prophesy is not coming to pass.
