I had to share this..
An elder dropped off some material he printed out to encourage me.....I don't think he read it himself....In discussions I have continually pointed out the reason why I have doubts is because I've read most of the publications from the late 1800's right through the glory years 1914 to 1942 and lost faith due to seeing the repeated changes and false predictions made by Russell and Rutherford. Why would God tell Rutherford to name anything after him and reveal complex bible passages which are still hotly debated by many scholars while allowing him to teach and mislead thousands under that same banner of truth. Which we have discarded BTW for the most part.
Anyway...The article says Religious exhortations to believe and doubt nothing are dangerous and deceptive. A loving christian is ready to believe those who have proved trustworthy in the past. But Gods word warns of putting faith in every word.( Prov 14:15) Sometimes a persons past record gives legitimate reasons for doubt. ''Although the deceptive talker makes his voice gracious'' the bible warns, ''do not believe him''(Prov 26:24,25)
An expression a teaching or an opinion might appear to emanate from God. But did it really come from him? Exercising some doubt, or suspending belief can be a real protection because, as the apostle John says ''many deceivers have gone forth into the world'' Remember Gods word and promises never fail!
Hard to imagine that the elders gave me an article which makes its clear to me I am on the right course...Thanks boys
