Well I was at a funeral today and I was really listening to what the Pastor was saying and trying to rationalize the message he was expressing.

He said that GOD could not help us or explain to us why this person had passed on but HE could help us understand it!

So here we have the supposed someone or something who has the power to do all and make things right yet he will let you die but he will graciously help you understand.

What a farce this GOD is, one more reason for me to have no belief in this fairytale book called the bible.

    True.

Death makes no sense to me. Why they try to explain it is far beyond me!

I think that there is reason here.l..... what I don't know. If there isn't, then we'll all just be dead anywayz... right?

Shamus (clings to some type of hope that there is a reason for all this.....)

Yes....the Bible God, isn't one of my more favorite Gods.

He not only helps you understand death.........he caused it by sentencing all of mankind with it, then he himself caused the death of millions for being bad guys in the OT. He originated death and promises that most ( accept for those on that little tiny narrow and cramped road ) will exist in death, ......at least apart from him. He's a bad planner and architect.

The Gods of the bible would constantly intervene in mankind's affairs, so it seems reasonable that some would expect him to do so today. When he doesn't, some have a tendency to turn their back on God. This is just one reason why I no longer believe in the bible or its mythological Gods. It gives people hope and then smacks them doen when they most need him. It would be nice to have some form of afterlife, but pretending there is one, doesnt make it so. Whats my reason for existence? To enjoy myself, look after my own and try to discover as much about our creator through his REAL word, and not some "idiots-guide" written centries ago.

In this sense the GOD tells you who you are AND what you are (albeit after a few cell splitting generations of being stem cells who are nobody and nothing --- but a nobody and nothing with potential)

    Religion is stupid.

    Sounds like doublespeak to me.

I recall receiving an email from a very religious freind (not sure how I made it on her list), with an attachment entitled something like "Where was God on 9/11." One of the workings of God, the aricle pointed out, was that the flights weren't completely filled (so, God helped minimize the deaths). Not sure how comforting that would be to people whose loved one WERE on the flight. What was god doing to help them.

The rest of the "reasons" were similar: non-sensical, illogical attempts to make it appear that God was there to make sure things were not as bad as they could have been. Yeah, that's a real omnipotent being for you.

    Wow!!

Understanding without explination!! He really is an amazing being!!

I think we die because that's the order of life. Things are born, things die. It sucks but that's how it works. I cannot rationalize a God that would INVENT dying for an ENTIRE HUMAN race (meanwhile that was his intent for animals all along) just because the first pair screwed it up. Makes no sense at all.

I think the fact that there is nothing more than birth and death, scared the hell out of some people a very long time ago, and thus God was born! Shortly after heaven. Then just to keep the scrubs in line, Hell was invented.

I find most religious thoughts abhorent, and yet I can co-exist with them. However, when they begin their "comforting" for people who have lost loved-ones, I REALLY CANNOT abide it. "God needed an angel more than we did". What a load of crap. God can do anything he wants, invent another freaking angel and leave my loved one with me, because I am sorry but I can always use a loved one more than an all-knowing, all-powerful being will.
