So I saw this article on yahoo news this past Friday

    https://au.news.yahoo.com/a/36618776/archaeological-find-in-jerusalem-proves-bible-passage-true/#page1

if you watch the video, it's a short 32 second video, the man says how they've found evidence that confirms that Jerusalem was destroyed in 586 BC, and it goes along with what is written in the Bible.

    Excerpt from article:

The book of Jeremiah says, "Now on the seventh day of the fifth month, which was the nineteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, a servant of the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem.

"He burned the house of the Lord, the king’s house, and all the houses of Jerusalem; even every great house he burned with fire."

I thought this was interesting so I decided to show my father and I told him "Look, this article says that these findings go along with what is written in the Bible and when Jerusalem was destroyed."

"607?" He asks. And I tell him "No, 586 BC, because it says that Jerusalem was destroyed in the nineteenth year in Nebuchadnezzar's rule and that is written in the Bible."

He just stared at me for a moment and as he walked away said "Yeah, that's in the Bible."

I'm surprised he didn't try defending 607 with it but what I regret not bringing up to him is what the Watchtower says about it. As a matter of fact, last week's mid week meeting spoke about 607 and how it's bible prophecy. I really am focusing on debating with him less.

    Thoughts?

Most JWs don't care about 607 "BCE".

They just accept the WTS' word that it happened then.

If they see an alternate date, they just think "oh those 'worldly authorities' have the wrong date - what else is new? They claim to have dated human remains from 10,000, 20,000, 30,000 years ago, and those dates must be false since they don't fit in with 'Bible chronology'. So it's hardly surprising that those 'worldly authorities' got one more date wrong."

But how oblivious can they be?

I have yet to find an active JW or pro- JW who is disturbed by the 586 versus 607 "debate".
