Room for a mushy post?

A recent excursion into the woods culminated in the procurement of a huge batch of sheep head mushrooms. I mentioned this to a friend and said I had made some killer soup! Her reply was that I should "stick to the edible varieties"........LOL!

This leads me to the following question......are there any other "great white" hunters out there who are equally brave when confronted with the fungus among us? If so.........do you have any favorite recipes to share or cooking preference for certain varieties? ( I also tried frying them but they were too bland and the beer batter overwhelmed their flavor...and they also lost so much hydration in the process as to become almost indetectible within their fluffy coating)

What are your favorites (in reference to the "belly expanding" varieties)?

mac, of the I know this is a very sporing subject class (and i can only identify inkies and buttonheads beyond this)

I have no idea what a sheep head mushroom is but all the mushrooms I've ever had tasted great when sauteed with garlic in butter. They tasted great in tortillas when done that way with cheese and the usual fajita fixings. YUM!

when the couple over the road had their housewarming party, it had rained hard the weeks before and our paddock was covered in huge 'shrooms. They collected them and had them on the BBQ for all to eat, the lady of the party had been taught by her parents what you could and could not eat... they were the best.

    I love shrooms!

Here in Indiana, we like morels. Our season for them is usually May, but depends on the weather.

I also like elephant ears, which are really big, and meaty, they taste like portabellos.

I have never heard of sheep ears, what area of the globe are you in?

I am not a vegetarian --love prime rib too much -- but a mushroom burger is a wonderful alternative if anyone is trying to cut down on their red meat consumption

Little witch: I'm a fellow Hoosier and am wondering if perhaps sheep heads and elephant ears are not the same thing? They do look a great deal like an elephant's ear.

As I recall from my college days, there were some wild remarks about a nice tea from shrooms. Never tried it.
