Ok, no one seemed to notice, but the Annual General Meeting came and went around October 4th I think.

Did anyone go, know anyone that went, or know what may have been discussed?

Apparently, there are a limited number of tickets issued. Part of the meeting is a business meeting. What do you think they discuss?

Why do they have the Annual Meeting in October? Someone once suggested to me that if Jehovah or Jesus do anything, it usually happens to be around the 1st week in October.

What do they discuss at their business meeting? Why are we not informed as to what they talk about - why is nothing ever discussed. After all, members are entitled to know about their Society's standing.

Maybe some of you long timers can help with these questions.

Once, a sister told me, that you had to have some seniority to just get one of these invites.

Someone started a thread on this http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/9/59670/896733/post.ashx#896733 but it didn't draw much of a crowd.

The annual meeting is basically a time for all old cronies to meet up and talk about what's happening with all the the old cronies.

The business meeting is just that a quick vote on the directors and replacements for any who died or resigned. The biggie! is considered to be the meeting which follows where the Yeartext for the coming year is announced as well as other such things.

Can't say any have been memorable except for the recent one where all the GB members were replaced as members of the corporations. We sat there for a few minutes with our mouths open.

We always look forward to seeing some of our long time friends, but really we can do that anytime if we wish. That's one of the reasons we did not go this year. Besides we're tired of hearing Ted Jaracz run his mouth

I know a JW and her husband who went; if I get any scoops I can post them tomorrow or Tuesday after I see her at work, unless, of course, I become comatose from boredom after listening to the faithful Dub drone on and on and on about how spiritually uplifting the weekend was .

My brother and his wife didn't mention too much about what was said at this annual meeting. Except that "We're in 235 lands and over 300 languages".

One older sister from my congregation who was invited a couple of years ago said it is supposed to be kept quiet, what is said at the annual meetings...that it would be untheocratic to tell others at the KH what had been discussed.

I do not think this is right. During my active years I would get a tape with the whole Annual Meeting (not the part with the business related topics) each year.

    GermanJW,

She said it would be untheocratic for her, as a sister, to give out any information before the Governing Body dispensed of the material, either through a letter or by an announcement, or as you mentioned recordings.

Well the dub who sits two desks down from me didn't have much to say about the annual meeting this year. She said there was not much news, no special talks that stood out in her mind. The year text is Matt. 24:41,42 (I believe, not quite sure), not the two whole verses but snippets from each. Other than that the only stuff she talked about was the Broadway show they went to and how one of her friends who also received a ticket to attend the annual meeting didn't show the proper appreciation for such a wonderful spiritual gift.

Last year was different, apparently there had been a talk about having "absolute trust in Jehovah's organization" and how the European brothers were very shook up over allegations of pedophiles in the org, etc. etc.

This year was very tame. Maybe the GB is so busy with lawsuits that they didn't have time to concentrate on annual meeting talks.

The following snippets are being passed via Private E-mail. I don't know how accurate it is.
    2004 Year Text:
    "Keep on the watch, . . . . . . Prove yourselves ready," Matthew 24:42, 44

Brother John Barr pointed out in his talk, even among us there is NOT A SENSE OF READINESS, as some are side-tracked by the lures of this system of things. He spoke about no one knowing the day or the hour, only the Father (Matthew 24:36). Therefore the admonition to be ready at anytime or any day. He emphasized that in Noah's day they took no note.

There has been a good response to the visitation program for inactive ones done by the elders this past spring. In the USA alone 15,000 were reactivated, and soon there will be a new program to expand this help even further.

One sister who was baptized when she was 12 years old, lost contact with the "truth" when both her parents were killed in an accident. 60 years later she was re-contacted and reactivated and is faithfully serving Jehovah again.

Brother Samuel Herd stressed the need to keep looking forward (not behind) to the things before us. Otherwise we will get caught by this old system.

If that's true, our congregation didn't hold up its end and neither did any other congos I know of... and I know a lot of them. This must be about the 15-minute "adjustment" that allows older, infirm inactive ones to count time anyway so they can, in turn, be counted by the WTS as publishers, thus swelling the ranks without any growth.
