but--the more i see of that clip--its a hand held camera or phone--not a store security cam.

so--whoever took it knew who Morris is... it was extremely coincidental the person was in the store at the right time. Unless of course its a high tec video photo shop production.....

Yes.. except in the totalitarian world this guy invented, in each of theses scenarios Iā€™ve seen either qualified men lose their appointments, or others like myself put on restrictions.

And I have seen the exact opposite. Iā€™ve been a part of three separate congregations, spanning 15 years. In each of these, all the elders had plenty of liquor. My entire family is into this damn religion, and in each of their houses there is a liquor cabinet - stocked. My in-laws having the largest, and my FIL is an active elder now. When I was studying, a long time ago, the man studying with me, also an elder at the time, would have wine tasting parties. There were some older aged scotch there too if you wanted a sample.

But, for all of these experiences the rule was no drunkenness. The liquor cabinets I see arenā€™t emptied in a day, a week, a month, or even a year.

I donā€™t doubt that some witness struggle with alcoholism, but possessing a bunch of alcohol has never been a sign of drunkenness to me.

Something doesn't need to be a disfellowshipping offense for it to be hypocrisy. What if a GB member sent their children to University and encouraged them to pursue a career in medicine? What if they bought a Rolls Royce? What if they only did 1 hour a month door-to-door and refused to submit to the public humiliation of of standing beside a trolley?

Right. I get that. But Iā€™ve havenā€™t seen any such advice given concerning alcohol, EXCEPT flat out drunkenness, excesses, being ā€œgiven to wineā€, etc. And as I have said, merely possessing the alcohol and drinking slowly over time is not excessive. A lot of people I know, witnesses and non-witnesses (Iā€™ve gotten to know some evangelicals since being out), have liquor caches, and they buy the liquor in spirts. It isnā€™t consumed quickly.

Any average JW might do all of these things and avoid being DFd. They might even be viewed as a JW in good standing. But for one of the law-givers of 8 million JWs to do these things is rank hypocrisy. So is spending 800 dollars on whisky.

Why? Like I said, and you have said above, it happens all the time without losing standing.

'For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required' - Luke 12:48

Alright, so this is a different principle. It is along the lines of Vanderhoven7ā€™s post. Basically, because some small fraction might see this and freak out, he shouldnā€™t do it at all. Thatā€™s the same principle Paul applied to the early Christians that wanted to eat a good pork chop. Basically, the line of reason is : Itā€™s not a sin, but there are retards among us, so for their sake, donā€™t do it. That logic always rubbed me the wrong way, but alright. If you want to apply that here, then buying the scotch the way he did would be consistent with that principle. So here is the question, given the doctrines and standing of the organization, do you think a member of the GB can purchase scotch at a liquor store?

MMM - How can wasting over 800 dollars on booze be exemplary?

He is the one demanding 8 million others practice austerity so as to contribute their surplus to the cult. Twelve bottles of top-end single malt deserves an explanation.

    Tony Tony Tony.

Why did the Nazi war criminals, as Germany was losing the war, jump out of uniform and into farmer's clothes?

Did they not wish to have a different standard applied to them than the one attached to their positions and claims?

An Old Testament verse from Zechariah came to mind.

ā€œOn that day every prophet will be ashamed of their prophetic vision. They will not put on a prophetā€™s garment of hair in order to deceive. 5Each will say, ā€˜I am not a prophet. I am a farmer; the land has been my livelihood since my youth. a ā€™ 6If someone asks, ā€˜What are these wounds on your body b ?ā€™ they will answer, ā€˜The wounds I was given at the house of my friends.ā€™

Sure, Tony is a regular guy, he's not a Nazi. He get's to slip out of his Nazi monthly broadcast uniform and go buy booze like Joe Regular. Or maybe Richy Rich.

We will forget that he claims to be a prophet.

We will forget that he claims obedience till death.

We will forget that he tells us to donate our last penny to Watchtower while he goes to spend it.

We will forget that he belittled us because we wanted to get an education.

We will forget that he claims human god status.

    .... or will we?

    I must have missed something.

When he was in the store, why didn't Tony preach the good news of the Kingdom, hand everyone a Watchtower, and offer them a free home Bible study?

The JWS has been a commercialized fraud organization from day one, an organization that was more fixated upon literature proliferation than anything else.

Wedding anniversaries and booze seems to be very popular things in this cult basically because they are things this cult allows.

From there is the reason why you see pretentious hypocrites in this organization , even from the top GB men.

Hey WT don't put away that switch/belt just yet!

The English community of JWs & exJWs have given their assessment of Toxic Tony's rendezvous at the liquor mart to get his fix. Obviously, there is a great deal of confusion, emotion and commotion on both sides of the isle...thank you TT!

The Spanish community of JWs & exJWs is just now beginning to weigh-in on the matter. Therein lies a much greater problem for the GB and their handling of this Bethel embarrassment. It just may be that our Spanish brothers and sisters are going to be even more critical and demanding of how this indiscretion by Toxic Tony is dealt with. My advice to 'Mother' would be:

    Don't put away that switch/belt just yet!šŸ¤£

Here's the thing about this. Regarding hypocrisy. Switch roles for a moment. If it had been any " ordinary " JW in that liquor store buying $ 800.00 or 12 bottles of very expensive Scotch Whiskey - and Anthony Morris was there observing the ordinary JW buying 12 bottles of Scotch Whiskey - would HE overlook the JW purchasing that amount of booze? Would he say something to that normal JW ? Like " we need to meet with you in the back room for counsel brother or sister " .

I highly doubt that he would overlook a purchase of that much alcohol by a " peasant " JW. Or follower. Having been born and raised in this JW cult from birth and escaping 16 years ago - I can certainly testify to the double standards among elders, leaders of the WT Society, how they feel that normal JW rules don't apply to THEM, because they are in charge. They're the boss, judge, jury, and executioner ( figuratively speaking ) .

Elders and WT leaders, circuit overseers, district overseers, etc. I saw time and time again feel that they were entitled to fudge any rules that were supposed to apply to all JW's- but not those in power. An evidence or proof of that is just look in the elders manual where it states that if an elder committed a sin of immorality like 25 years ago, and it was never reported - then the view currently is to drop the charge, let it go - because ( drum roll ) Jehovah's " holy spirit has evidently forgiven him for his sin. " And he remains an elder. But what if a normal JW reports or has someone rat him or her out for an offense from 20 to 25 years ago ? The elders attack and bring that person up before a judicial committee faster than flies on shit- I guarantee it. I saw it happen time and time again in the cult.

So to me THAT is the big issue here regarding Anthony Morris doing this. He feels the normal rules of JW land don't apply to him. One reason why elders who were child molesters get appointed again as elders in time after molesting kids. It's that whole ENABLING thing that WT Society leaders filter down from the top the mindset that " well, I'm an elder, GB member, who are you to question me " type syndrome. And an entitlement attitude among many elders. I saw it in my own elder dad when he was alive, and it's just a systemic problem of the entire WT Society JW organization. It will continue on until big WT leaders fall. Meanwhile normal JW's will be led like sheep, and they will not question anything- mistakenly thinking WT leaders have their back. Which of course, they do not. OK, I'm done. End of speech. Peace out, Mr. Flipper

MMM - How can wasting over 800 dollars on booze be exemplary?

Right. So itā€™s the amount? If he purchased $200 worth of liquor, it would be OK? And it is ā€œwastingā€ money because of the product purchased?

He is the one demanding 8 million others practice austerity so as to contribute their surplus to the cult. Twelve bottles of top-end single malt deserves an explanation.

Ok, so the GB should not buy liquor at all because it could be used for ā€œmore important thingsā€? What if he bought iced cream, which seems equally useless?
