I ran accross this the other day in the paper and thought this might be appropriate to everyone posting here.

    Rotary 4-Way Test

It was created by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor in 1932 when he was asked to take charge of a company that was facing bankruptcy. Taylor looked for a way to save the struggling company mired in depression-caused financial difficulties. He drew up a 24-word code of ethics for all employees to follow in their business and professional lives. The 4-Way Test became the guide for sales, production, advertising and all relations with dealers and customers, and the survival of the company is credited to this simple philosophy. The 4-Way Test was adopted by Rotary in 1943 and has been translated into more than a hundred languages and published in thousands of ways. Herb Taylor became president of Rotary International in 1954-55.

Of the things we think, say, or do:

    1. Is it the TRUTH?
    2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
    3. Will it build GOOD WILL and better FRIENDSHIPS?
    4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

    Sincerely,

I truly think its BENEFICIAL for everyone here to know just how many licks it takes to get to the center of the Tootsie Pop. After all, how do we know when we might be licking away on a Tootsie Pop, just licks away from the chewy center and the phone rings. If I put my TP down and get it on the 1st ringy dingy, the dog might get it. Should I answer it on the 2nd ring or the 3rd, or will the answer machine get it before I have time to get it? If I only knew how many more licks to go, I would not be in such a dilemma.

Hey, simplesally, didn't you know it only takes THREE licks to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?

Good points, Valis. And not too hard to remember!

eh...both of you are wrong...it depends entirely which toots, tootsie roll, or tootsie pop, we are talking about...

Some posters here will choke on the idea that anything they consider to be true might not be beneficial or fair. And once some people think they're right, they could care less about building relationships with others.

Too bad, because building relationship is a lot more constructive and effective than simply being right all the time... and what's more important, having people see you as having the right answer, or making the biggest difference?
