Just for interest I wonder If anyone call advise me why the no 2 and 4 talks were recently changed.

For example talk 2 used to be personal comment and Bible reading. Now its just a reading of the Bible.

I was shocked to hear about this change, too. They're just reading a section of the Bible, with no introduction or application.

It appears they are "dumbing down" or simplifying the # 2 talk to encourage participation in the school. The JW's might argue that it is to emphasize "good Bible reading skills". But what good is the reading without some application?

I find the change quite shocking.

But on the other hand, it might be okay -- more Bible, less Watchtower-based material to hear at the meeting!

Actually, it is worse, Gopher. One out of 4 times approximately, the material read for the #2 talk is only material from the WT to give the brothers practice reading publicly for the meetings. Evidently, reading the Bible outloud does not prepare you for reading the more sacred WT writings. Also, the other talks occasionally have nothing other than a theme provided and the person giving the talk has to do their own research. There has been a lot of grumbling around here about that. JWs are used to having their thinking done for them.

Talk #2 could be taken by any brother, or unbaptised male in good standing. You would have an opportunity to 'teach' in some way. The way it is now, a separation is being made between the 'weak' brothers and the 'not-so-weak' ones. Anyone irregular, for example, may not have the opportunity of a shot at Talk #4, meaning that the 'weak' brothers will be consigned to Talk #2, the class of unpabtised publishers; this will be obvious to those in the Congregation.
