Having recognised the mind control of the Watchtower and the tecniques it used. Are you aware of other influences of mind control In your life today? If so What are these?

Right after I left the Watchtower I went through a short 'christian' phase. I figured now that the Watchtower was out of the way I could be free to have a relationship with God. I read the bible and tried to figure out what it meant for us now. I lived my life with the thought that God would be pleased or displeased with me based on the decisions I made. There werent rules to live by like when I was a JW but there were still christian standards.

I now feel that 'for me' belief in a Christian God is a form of mind control and I freed myself of that. There is no proof of there even being a God so I dont understand how people can base their life decisions on what someone who may not even exist thinks. Its way too similar to being a JW for me.

I do know that some people are able to believe in God while at the same time not fearing God or letting their belief get in the way of their happiness. I havent learned how to do that yet and I dont feel any need to right now. Of course I always reserve the right to change :).

Are you aware of other influences of mind control In your life today?

There are all types of influences/mind control in everyone's life. Are you patriotic? If so, it is most likely because you were told from the time you were small that the country you live in is the Right one.

Do you like to eat live bugs? Probably not - because you have been conditioned to think that they are disgusting - whereas other cultures view them a delicacy.

Mind control is inevitable in any society - it's important, however, to recognize it and to be aware of it's existence so it does not take control of your life in a negative way.

I am not prepared to acknowledge JW mind control. This thread has many insightful points:

    Dawn Hi

So right......Dont let it control you in a negative way.!! But we must be aware of it.

My wife wants a seriouse conversation with me tomorrow because Iam smoking..Its not worth the hazzle. Ciggie no more. its a silly point but if I can get away with a 6 pack twise a week our marriage is good.If I take it further...My Ann-Mari ( Worth her wait in Gold) I think the trick with mind control is to be aware of it recognise it and to bend. But if its a princple that means something to you then Fight it whatever the cost.

One example of brainwashing that I recognized the other day...

one huge thing that has been getting a lot of publicity of late is the continued research started by the late Dr. Atkins.

For decades we were told that in order to be healthy and/or lose weight we had to cut fat out of our diets and eat lots of grains and bread up to 9 servings a day according to that little chart we all got used to seeing in health class.

All of the current research is proving that, as hard as it is for some to change their thinking, the truth is that a diet very low in carbs (grains breads ect) and higher in protien and fat will result in even more weight loss and better health over all.

Even doctors have been resisting the change in mindset because they just cant stop believing what we have always known to be true. Everytime a new study is done and the results come out the doctors yell 'we dont believe it..this must have happened..or maybe this is why...'. The last one I read about where the people on a low carb diet were able to eat 300 more calories a day than the people on a low fat diet and still lost more weight, a doctor then responded that the people in the 'lowfat' group must have just cheated on the diet more. Talk about brainwashing..its almost as comical as watching a jw try to come up with a response to 'concerns' about their religion.

But the current research, albiet incomplete and challenged heavily, is slowly changing peoples thinking and eventually will change the way americans eat in general I think.
