Since his true name is Yahweh and not the artificial form, Jehovah, I guess a people for his name would not be Jehovah's Witnesses.

You're talking about that egotistical, ferocious, warlike, primitive, land-grabbing weather god of the ancient Hebrews? The real God who lives and "rules" at the center of all things needs no "people" for his name; all sentient beings are "his" anyway - for all who are led by God's Spirit are God's children.
What could be simpler, or more clear?

This is the application:
God searched through the nations to take out of them people for his name.
God chose them, they did not choose God. since they 'heard' from God and learned, they came to the Son. For "no man can come to [me] unless the Father who sent me draws him."
Such ones were drawn, believed in the Son, and recieved the free gift of holy spirit to furnish a 'guarantee' within them that they personally belonged to Christ.
2 Corinthians 1:21
Later, when they are 'sealed' with that holy spirit, the mark remains upon their foreheads. Not a physical mark, but a spirit mark that can literally be seen in the spirit realm.
Revelation 7:3
Such a 'mark' has God's name in it, and thus they are a "people for his name." They do not recieve this name unless Christ personally seals it on their foreheads.
