I need to find out what language this page is in:

    http://www.tweakers.net/reviews/373/3

It *looks* German to me, but German->English translaters don't work on it, so I'm guessing it's not.

Anyway, I very badly need that page translated, and I can't find anything that will do it right now, as I don't know the language!

    it is Dutch
and look heavy stuff to me. (very technical)
I am already translating it, and wil post is when ready.
When you use Blondie's suggestion, a lot is simple not translated.

But I don't trust it: the date is 1 April 2003.
In the Netherlands this date means practical joke's. (all over the country)
Anything mentioned for or on this day should be mistrusted.

Hardware and software RAID 5 performance in windows XP
    by Femme tasks - Tuesday 1 April 2003 - 16.08

The implementation of the Windows XP RAID 5 patch are fairly simple.
The only requiring tool exists only of a hexeditor.

The idea behind the patch is Windwows XP let to believe that the RAID partial-potentialities of the server versions belongs to the desktopversions and vice-versa. To this end the string must replace ?SERVERNT? to become ?WINNT? in a number of files and the original appearances of ?WINNT? are replaced ?SERVERNT?.

    The step-by-step is as follows:
    1) copy the following files from the Windwos subdirections to another place to be manipulated with the hexeditor:

    \system32\drivers\dmboot.sys
    \system32\dmconfig.dll
    \system32\dmadmin.exe

Make sure that you have a backup of the above three files, for the case the law of Murphy strikes.

    2) Open the files in the hexedito and replace SERVERNT or servernt by 'WINNT' / 'winnt' and vice-versa ('WINNT' replace by 'SERVERNT')
Take care that the lenght does not change (of the traffic-jams)
The difference in lenght between the string SERVERNT and WINNT must be filled up with zero-bytes.

    3) Copy the three adapted files to their original location.
You can do this out of / from the recovery console.
but admins may also do it direct from Windows.
In that case make sure that the Windows XP installation cd is not in the CD-ROM player.
Don?t indulge the whims of Windows XP that a few changed files must be replaced by their originals.

    copy dmboot.sys system32\drivers
    copy dmboot.sys system32\dllcache
    copy dmconfig.dll system32
    copy dmconfig.dll system32\dllcache
    copy dmadmin.exe system32
    copy dmadmin.exe system32\dllcache

    4) Reboot the computer.
After the implementation of the patch you will find in Disk Management the possibility to built RAID 1 ann RAID 5 partitions
RAID partitions can be produced exclusively on disks which has been configured as Dynamic disk.
Basic Disks can be converted to Dynamic Disks by clicking in the disk overview with the right_mouse_button on the name of the concerning disk.

Running the Windows XP RAID 5 patch is fairly simple. The necesarry tools are only a hexeditor. The idea is to let Windows XP believe that the RAID partitioning-possibilities of the serverversions belong to the desktop-options, and vica versa. For that, the string ?SERVERNT? needs to be replaced by ?WINNT? in a couple of files and the original appearances of ?WINNT? need to be replaced by ?SERVERNT?. The staps are as follows.

The difference in lenght between the string SERVERNT and WINNT must be filled up with zero-bytes. (or nulbytes)

    3) Copy the three adapted files to their original location.

    Perfect!

    Thank you both!

I'm trying to set up a RAID-5 system, but only Win2k supports it. (Well, WinNT Server, Win2K Server and Win2K3) Anyway, I know XP *should* support it, because it's the same kernel (basically), but it doesn't. Well, right now. Googling various topics to come up with a solution yielded this page, but I had been searching ALL WEEK for an English translation of it with no luck.

(You'd think this would be the kind of thing that would get translated! RAID-5 is VERY handy to have!)

Anyway, thanks again! I'lll update the thread if this works. Faster data access and redundency - very good things to have in a server! And, if this works, no need to buy a hardware RAID solution (about $100) if Windows can do it natively.
