Would anybody have joined or remained in the JW's organization if they would have taught that the end was only in 100 years from now?

That would have made me want to leave even more.
Throughout history countless thousands of people and groups have predicted the end of the world, and they all have one thing in common: The were all wrong.

The whole allure of an apocalyptic cult is that it MUST appeal to an individual's fear of dying (or being destroyed at armageddon). To set the date out a hundred years removes most (if not all) potential converts. Think about why maintstream Christianity developed its heaven/hell doctrines (since everyone eventually dies...). When WBTS sets dates, they aren't so far off that NO ONE will be around then that is now, but still out far enough that the people that were pulled in for earlier dates won't be around, won't remember, or figured they'd wasted their lives anyway, that they go along with all the younger ones who were sucked into it all. Most people in the developed world have the opportunity to learn about WBTS pattern of random predictions gone by the way side. But all those folks in third world countries are ripe for the picking.... 100 years away? No Way Dude. Shoshana

People will join a end-time cult or religion because they see real hope in the very near future. If they are going to deprive themselves of "life", then they realistically want to get something back in their own lifetime, when they can ENJOY things before they get too old. 100 years means you'll never see it happen in your lifetime. Only a dope would join.....Minimus the ex-dope.....

JH,it's gone too far now.It is beyond the dating system.Even if they said it was a hundred years away, there are too many inconsistencies in all of the whole range of teaching that has caused so much suffering to their followers.I would not remain and would help others not to join, and help those who have joined to get out. It's not about dating or waiting anymore,it's about the inconsistencies in their teachings.

If they would have taught the end was 1 year from the time I found out it was bunk.....it would make no difference at that point.......as that 1 year date would be as bogus as their claims that they alone have the truth. Dates at THAT point would mean NOTHING.

Can anyone explain to me what the end has to do with being a Witness?
I am told on good authority that the object of becoming a Witness is to "serve Jehovah". It has nothing whatsoever to do with living forever on a paradise earth.
My response to that was "why have slogans like Millions Now Living Will Never Die and books like the Live Forever book?".
"No answer" was the stern reply.

EXACTLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, and this is what the Watchtower is so guilty of, always making dates and predictions.
Jesus said, "no one knows the day nor the hour."
NWT translation "no one knows the day nor the hour. (except the Watchtower and governing body)"
they are guilty of hype and promoting to get more hours and donations and CONTROL of people.
From Russell to Rutherford to Knorr to Franz to today, it hasn't changed, they will never learn, and people will continue to buy into the crap because THEY ARE SCARED TO DIE !
