This might date me, but here goes. In 1974 I was eight years old I can remember my parents egerly looking forword to the big "A" there were many preperation to be maid, we stocked up on large cans of goverment surpluse welfair food, we set aside books & magz my mom though we should bury them, my dad said it would be safe enough just to hide them under the house, (he did'nt want to dig the hole).

When back to school time came around they were considering keeping us out of school, and there was much talk about who we would first get to talk to among the risen dead. WOW WHAT A TRIP !!! Needless to say new shoes and the skteboard I wanted would not be needed in the new system. So there was'nt much for a kid to do but wait. It seemed as if our lifes were on hold like a car trip that lasted a year. I got new shoes and a skatebord in 1975. But we heald off on getting braces for my teeth.

What a long strange trip it's been

Yep, with lots of bathroom breaks (remember, on long car trips "I have to go to the bathroom" usually came right after "are we there yet?"). Hey, welcome, jumper!

    Jumper,

We're not there yet. We'll never get there. Remember when the Israelites were wandering in circles in the Sinai wilderness? Well, this trip is even crazier than that one.

However as a child your job is to just "shut up" and trust the parents (organization), even though we don't have a road map and it's foggy and we're running out of gas and supplies. This trip will be done pretty soon. In fact, the end is just around the corner !!

    Welcome Jumper!

If you think the trip was strange just look at who was doing the driving!!! <the org of course, our parent(s) were just passengers as well>

welcome again jumper. Talked to u in chat a few days ago. U were asking what a thread was. Guess what? U just started one.

yes 75 was an odd time to live. I was entering my 20's and well, my whole life was supposed to be on hold. but i did not believe them and just knew that they could not possibly be right b/c the bible says no one would know the day or hour. I thought the year was too close too. A lot of crazy things were said from the platform.

Jumper!!! I was 15 in 1975. Dropped out of school to aux. pioneer in 1975. *trying to make some points!* Went back to school in 1976. Yes, it was a ride!

I'd like to think that I've long been OFF that ride and now I'm on a sail boat with smooth sailing! Freedome is sweet, isn't it!

    Welcome!

The 70's where some strange times , disco was the rage , spandex was making the scene , there was often the talk of nuclear war with russia , I can still remember having to hide under my desk at school in case of nuclear attack . Bomb shelters were pretty popular , you can say many were faint with fear of the expectation of a nuclear war much like they seem today over the terrorist activity . I think times may even be stranger today I suppose if you were in an end time religion it would seem that the end was near .

Hi jumper, and welcome to JWD

I was 23 in 1975, baptized in '62 (at the ripe old age of 10). The 1975 debacle was a huge wakeup call for me, and I was DFd for apostasy 5 years later.

However, the "eschatological mindset" was still strong in me, and for that and family reasons, I sought and was granted reinstatement ('81). 1984 was the next 'unofficial' speculation (1914 + 70, how suggestive, eh?), and then in the late 80s the comment in the Watchtower that "the preaching work would be completed by the end of the century (changed in the bound volume to "in the near future"). Then 1994 (1914 + 80, grasping the last straw). Then the "generation change" in 1995, and the real beginning of the end...the end of my ability to believe anything the WTS said.

So, here I am, "on-a-cruise" through life , and finally (whew!) free of that surrealistic fantasy called Armageddon.
