A 1st cousin(A) of mine just called me about one of my great aunts(B) getting reinstated. (B) has been disfellowship for as long as I can remember. (A) Has always stood on the fence with his beliefs. (A) was never baptized and the first time my eyes were open to everything I brought it up to (A) he got super defensive saying "I won't talk to you again if you bring that up". I was shocked because I thought (A) was pretty open minded. (A) wife was never a witness, they both smoked tobacco over the years, and even celebrated Christmas.

When (A) called me I mentioned if he knew about the norwegian government rulling and he was unaware. His exact words where "well I don't know about all that". So I explained the face value or what I knew but left it at that.

As much as I love and respect (A) it honestly amazings me that he still has a foot in the door.

    (B) the great aunt getting reinstated has been a outspoken apostate for years. I've only had a handful of interactions with her over the years and last one was 5 years ago. I never knew her story, so as a adult (my last time seeing her I was very young) I finally understood why she wasn't allowed around and it even amazes me more she would want to come back after all these years.. Anyway just thought I'd share this small story because I never knew POMI people actually exist. I've met random people who became friends then found out they where raised JW. They still believe they just didn't practice.

I think it is most wise to accept people choices in life.

Pomi is very common. And on my opinion are most to be pitied. POd about someone or some trivial thing, or alienated because of church censure. Always haunted by what ifs or never feeling worthy.

Decades can pass but the programming endures. Some posters here have complained about doctrine or mistreatment for many years. Rejecting the efforts of others to get them to step back from the trees and see the forest.

It can be an uphill battle trying to deprogram.

Mind control is a terrible thing.

So true - and when they go back they instantly become sickeningly 'spiritual' and borg centric,
