“Too many non-working holidays in America. It is costing our Country $BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to keep all of these businesses closed,” the president wrote in a Truth Social post.

“The workers don’t want it either,” he added.

Its the second sentence that makes me eyeroll. Yes, us 'workers' absolutely despise paid company holidays. What sort of lunatic would want a day off in the middle of the week?

I don't care if I have a 'specific' holiday, I would much rather move those 14 days to 'some other time'. Let the companies compete for my employment on the basis of total vacation time rather than mandating a schedule where both sides are forced. It would spread out holiday travel a lot better too, leading to all sorts of market optimizations and cost reductions.

I like having both. I've got 5 weeks of PTO to use when I see fit, but its nice to also have a few where the entire company goes home for a day or two. It may just be me, but when I take PTO there is a sort of nagging background anxiety, because works continues for everyone else and whats my inbox gonna look like when I return?

When we all go home for for Christmas or Thanksgiving it's nice knowing things are pretty much gonna be as we left them when we return Monday.

Too right, let’s end weekends and reintroduce child labour too. Some people say children shouldn’t be made to work? Let the market decide! Don’t like your working conditions? Then why not start your own business and make your own rules, loser.

He is just mad because no one was around to bring him his Mc Donald's fries and ketchup on Juneteenth.

His biggest fans are in the deep south and bible belt in the "land of cotton" where those lazy poor need to work two jobs and get those kids to work young...fulltime. "In 2025, several states will have the lowest minimum wage, adhering to the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. These states include Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Lowest income states, adjusted for cost of living: Hawaii, New York, California, New Mexico etc

Highest income states, adjusted for cost of living: North Dakota, Kansas, Oklahoma etc

The difference between Kansas and New York is nearly 30%, in Kansas’ favor, so the average US $100 is worth $116 in Kansas and $87 in New York.

The number of people that would get a wage hike if their minimum wage is adjusted is only 1.1% of the population (so not very many people), however, in Kansas this is less than 1%, in NY this stands now at ~16% according to its own data. As a result of the NYS wage hike, there was over 20% (from 4% to 24%) of reduction in employment amongst 19-26yo.
