The Attorney General for the state of Victoria, Australia is to push legislation that will require priests to report any confession that reveals child abuse.
Will elders be required to do so? Elders. will the wt decide out loud whether they are clergy or not. They tried it both ways at the CARC but this passage of new law may decide the issue for them.
We can only hope so zeb that Elders ,clergy ,pastors ,priests,have a mandate to report child sexual abuse when they learn of it or face the consequences,hopefully a jail sentence .
Probably depends on whether the Governing Body wants to call Elders clergy or non-clergy that week. Which way do you think they'll lean? Ain't a hard decision from where I'm sitting.
It will be interesting to see how the Roman Catholic church responds since the proposed law stands in direct contradiction to its traditional view on the sacredness and secrecy of confession. More sparks or a docile subservience? Time will tell...
