In this powerful and emotional testimony, an elderly man shares how the 1975 prophecy from the Jehovah’s Witnesses changed his life forever. Raised to believe that Armageddon was just around the corner, his family made radical sacrifices — quitting jobs, selling everything, and giving up on education — all in the name of the Watchtower’s timeline.

But when 1975 came and went… nothing happened.

Now, 50 years later, he looks back on the broken promises, the trauma, and the devastating cost of misplaced faith.

When I listen to this. When I listen to the story of two brothers who haven't spoken for thirty years, when time is ticking and the older is 68, I could cry.

    ABADDON:

This is a good video about 1975 and I have seen others. That event was a human tragedy.

    DIOGENESISTER:

Yes, time is ticking and these poor Witnesses don’t realize it.. I was still in Catholicism in 1975 and was blissfully unaware of this monumental catastrophe in the making.. (I never learned of the full story about 1975 until after I left the Jehovah’s Witnesses!!).. When I see videos like this about what these people gave up (for absolutely nothing) and the young lives derailed - it’s absolutely heartbreaking.. I am not surprised that a million people or so left the Witnesses after this.

But, the religion never apologized for this or anything else. They don’t care about what happens to the average rank & file JW whether it’s over this or any other failed teachings. They just want gullible people accepting of victimization with selective memory loss it would seem - who will then keep their mouths shut.

I never did anything so good as to get myself Out of there!

i was already out before 1975 and openly cynical about it all. Even managed to get my wife pregnant that summer and my son was born in april 76.

Sadly, this is a story that has been repeated over and over.

    DING:

And because of the JW religion’s silence on 1975, you have many younger Witnesses who don’t even know what it was all about.

In the ‘90s, it seems a new bumper crop of gullible people made similar mistakes as people before 1975.. A handful here and there left their jobs before actual retirement age to ‘go where the need was great’🙄. They assumed (wrongly) that Armageddon would be here before their monies ran out. These people obviously had to re-enter the workforce at an older age and in a worse economy.
