Just sick. Various ways of torturing the non-believer or sinner in the good old days.

    Hi megadude,

I have used the site you posted for some time now in re-searching things. I have posted those pics before and it's a bit shocking. I can say one thing about that however, and that is...... most christians on this planet today ALSO feel that was horrible. Attrocities done in the name of christianity should NEVER be a barometer for what christianity stands for. Ex-dubs who plant bombs in kingdom halls, are not what ex-jw's represent.

As you know....I am not a christian, however I stand up for it if it's lied about or misrepresented as I do with the witnesses. I'm not downing you in ANY way for this post as I have posted the same material myself as I said. I thought this was just a good time to say this.....Thanks for the info.

It's true that many of our ancesters were pretty sick bastards, and many of them did those atrocious barbaric things in the name of religion. Christianity, though has been one of the bloodiest of all time.

Personally I think everyone is entitled to their personal path to spiritual enlightenment. As long as they leave me the hell alone!

    gretchen,

    Please don't use those words!

I happen to have a patent on this board for those words...."Sick Bastards "

Now I'm gonna sue your arse!

I couldn't agree more. There would be so much fewer problems if everyone just minded their own religious business.

Do you expect christians to follow this advise? Part of the christian belief is to evangelize.

I don't see it as bad for someone to share their faith. What is bad, is for ones to impute to you that you need THEIR faith. Unless you have their faith.......your gonna die. Sadly.......this is what christianity must evangelize about.

    Lovely.

I don't recall scientists ever killing or torturing people who don't accept their views.

When you can't use logic and reason, nothing persuades like a good ol' fashioned disembowelment.

Gumby brings up a good point. While what happened back in those times is terrible, that doesn't mean all Christians condone such methods. You can't lump all of Christianity based on what a few people did hundreds of years ago.

It's the same type of black and white thinking that disgusted me about the JWs. There are almost always gray areas.

For an informative novel on the whole subject of the auto da fe, try "Fire over England", a well written story about the whole inquisition saga. I covered it whilst studying for the old-style GCE.
