....and to spend time each day studying the scriptures.
That's probably why most Mormons and JWS leave or start to question the doctrines of each religion.
Truthful interpretation of the Scriptures can lead one to get punished and ostracized.
At least the Mormon religion doesn't institute shunning, particularly placed between family members.

I'm assuming that their friends and family can still speak to them and there isn't an announcement made about the person in front of the congregation.

At least this is better than JWs. Still members of the church, but not in good standing, something JWs already do unofficially, and no forced shunning.
