    G'day all,

Running late this weekend.........boy, it's been hectic!

Viewing the baptism scenes on the TV news prompted this poll question for this weekend:

What did you usually do during the baptisms?

    1. Stayed and applauded.

    2. Stayed and ate sandwiches.

    3. Took an early mark to get to McDonalds.

    4. Didn't go.

    5. Looked out for friends.

    6. In conversation.

    7. Other (please detail)

    So, care to reminisce? Enjoy.

We look forward to reading your thoughts.

Cheers, Ozzie (of the "baptised in the Borg and Babylon the Great class")Cheers 2

The last few Conventions I attended it was mandatory for everyone to stay in their seats until the baptisms were finished. So we used to bring our sarnies to the seats or slip out before the end of the session and sit in the car park.

I found the baptism talk the most boring talk of the convention. Like wedding and funeral talks, the talk never varied, one size fits all. I would look to see if anyone I knew was getting baptized, the ages, and how many. Then my mind made a quick exit. The fact that I missed the change in the baptism questions in 1985, shows how completely I tuned out.

Left right away and went to the vehicle to eat

Never understood the fuss over the outward symbol of the more important event, a change in heart and mind that really only the individual and God were part of. No one clapped at Jesus' baptism. Is a baptism less valid if only the one baptizing you is there?

Isn't it nice to know how "efficient" the WTS is now with these special bathtubs? I wonder if the media knows that these people have now put themselves in the position to be shunned by everyone they know and care about if they disagree with something the WTS teaches, even if 2 years later new light changes the WTS position?

Yes, 500 baptisms is a record in Australia, but a manufactured one as "baptism candidates" put off their baptism until the International Convention to give the impression that this is a great increase. 500 people would have been baptized anyway but over a longer period of time and at more locations.

Why do you have to wait until an assembly/convention? "Here's a body of water, what prevents me from being baptized?"

    Hi Ozzie!

If I didn't know anyone in line for baptism, I left as soon as the session was over and made a beeline for my friends. We always knew it was over by the thunderous (not really) applause coming from inside the stadium. After Steve and I were married, we would go outside and walk around. We could always count on finding a nice place to eat at my parents RV across the lot. They never stayed around to watch the swim either, elder and all.

By the way, I loved the card. I'm a bit late with mine but will get it in the mail this week. I picked out a pack of Seattle holiday cards with you in mind. Merry Christmas!Christmas Tree

    I'm with Princess,

If I wasn't attending the baptismal pool...( and I did that alot)....I only stayed if was someone from our congregation or someone I knew well from another congregation.

    Blondie,

No one clapped at Jesus' baptism.

It's funny that the dubs reason we shouldn't clap when someone is getting re-instated, because they are doing what they should be doing anyway......yet it's OK to clap for someone who is doing what they also should be doing anyway....getting baptised.

I took the plunge at the ripe old age of 16 in 1970.

Obviously, we went to our RV and waited for our kids to show up for lunch. Lunch Much more fun.
