    G?day all,

So how?s this post-Xmas weekend going for you? After all the entertaining on Boxing Day, we?re glad to have a rest! Actually something strange happened ? we drank several bottles of white wine, but no red!!!! Will I recover, d?ya think?

The highlight for us was some incredibly beautiful salmon from Seattle. Great food, great company, and great wine. What more could anyone ask for?!!

Well, I guess we?re ready for a poll now, eh? Let?s try this one for a spot of reminiscing:

Was it best to live close by or far away from the Kingdom Hall?
    1. Next door, so?s you could leave home at the last minute.
    2. Next door, so?s you could go home during the meetings to watch sport on the TV.
    3. Close by, so you wouldn?t miss the "fine association".
    4. As far away as possible.
    5. Definitely not next door, because it would be a toilet and refreshment stop.
    6. Not too far away, so you would be available for the "loving shepherding calls"!
    7. Don?t tell anybody where you live!
    8. Live at Bethel so you don?t have to go in field service.
    9. Out of the territory is best, so you never have to have a group meeting place.
    10. Other (please detail)

Well, that?s it, so start reminiscing! We?re looking forward to your replies.

    Enjoy.

    Cheers, Ozzie

Next door, so?s you could leave home at the last minute.

Well it seems to me the closer we lived the later we were. That seemed to apply to others too.

Next door, so?s you could go home during the meetings to watch sport on the TV.

I know of people who lived next to the hall. Don't know they ever did that.

Close by, so you wouldn?t miss the "fine association".

This would have been my elder/husband's choice but definitely not mine.

    As far away as possible.

2400 KM from the cong I used to go to does me just fine

Definitely not next door, because it would be a toilet and refreshment stop.

We lived a 20 minute walk from the hall and still was the pit stop.

Not too far away, so you would be available for the "loving shepherding calls"!

Again hubby's choice - not mine

Don?t tell anybody where you live!

Yup for me on this one too. Invisibility is nice

Live at Bethel so you don?t have to go in field service.

    Never an option

Out of the territory is best, so you never have to have a group meeting place.

We actually did this one early in our marriage but the traveling was murder - 1 1/2 hours on a bus across Montreal

    Other (please detail)
As an elder's wife with 2 small kids I would have liked to live about a five minute walk from the hall. Especially on those nights when the girls had to go to school the next day it would have been great to get the girls home and to bed while the elders had their "brief" meeting. Eventually I managed to talk him into letting me take the car and him either walking the 20 minutes or finding a ride.

Was it best to live close by or far away from the Kingdom Hall ?

    1. Next door, so?s you could leave home at the last minute. --Didn't matter because my hubbie was a good MS and got there 20 minutes early
    2. Next door, so?s you could go home during the meetings to watch sport on the TV.--Only knew 2 people who lived next door--they would dart home to get dinner started for the speaker. At least that is what they said.
    3. Close by, so you wouldn?t miss the "fine association".--Close or far away will not determine whether you are invited to get-togethers--it's who you know and if you are in the right clique
    4. As far away as possible.--My motto now that I don't go--make that as far away from anyone who goes too.
    5. Definitely not next door, because it would be a toilet and refreshment stop.--I had this happen once on a Saturday morning when hubbie and I had stayed home with horrific colds. We lived in the particular territory they were working that morning. I think it was more to check to see if we had a good reason not to be out in the door-to-door. After acknowledging we were really sick they came in used the bathroom and drank our coffee all the while we were coughing and blowing our nose!!!!!
    6. Not too far away, so you would be available for the "loving shepherding calls"!--you could live next-door to 2 elders and I wouldn't suggest holding your breath until they call or say hi.
    7. Don?t tell anybody where you live!--We'd love to do this but we have non-JW family with contacts with the JW family and somebody would forget and let it slip. Non-jws are blabbers too you know.
    8. Live at Bethel so you don?t have to go in field service.--Ain't that the truth. I will have to admit that newbies go out until they get taught the ropes.
    9. Out of the territory is best, so you never have to have a group meeting place.---This worked for us. It works better when you want to fade. JWs are less likely to be stopping by to use the bathroom or get water.
    10. Other--As a fader, I would like to live as far away from the KH and any JW.

Yummy, isn't it? I have some too, for New Year's Day here.

We lived about a mile and a half from the KH for the last 23 years we attended. It was definitely better than when we lived 10 miles away. It made for not long travel times, especially when we had 3 kids and a newborn...............it was hard to get a meal, cleaned up and out the door with that many to get ready, especially on Sunday mornings.

As far away as possible so nobody would detect my meth lab.

Actually....being an Elder, I was gald it was only a couple of miles from my home. It made it easier to be on time as running late was a common occurence for a working dub with many responsibilities.

We always lived pretty close. We also always were there plenty early. It was great to arrive last minute for meetings for service though. Never could get there on time, even when it was in my own house!

Seattle smoked salmon is so good! Steve had his last catch smoked so we have lots in the freezer. Made a nice omelette for breakfast (um, lunch actually) yesterday. I'll post a link to a picture of his catch if I can find it!

OK, found the link. Steve is in the second row of pics from the bottom, second picture. He is wearing a gray ball cap and green jacket and holding a big a$$ fish!

Oops, sorry to hijack your thread Ozzie. The smoked salmon distracted me!

Yup - we did that for about 6 months - while I was pioneering. Hubby was brand new in the org and really gung ho on everything. And trying to be a good submissive wife I followed where ever he led. After 6 months we moved back into the territory for 3 months - had the book study in our home during that time and moved back out of the territory for another 3 months. And then yes back in again.

BTW now I live a five minute walk from the hall but since I was never a dub here in Winnipeg the only ones who know about me are a couple who came to the house. And now that they know I am DFed I don't expect to see any unless it is by accident.

And you can bet they get a good witness when they come here

As for the smoked salmon - when we went on our Alaskan cruise that is what I had every morning - oooooo so yummy
