While driving today to Philadelphia they played the song "thats the way" by KC and the Sunshine band. It brought back a lot of good memories if witness gatherings in the 1970's. We had disco music, plastic plates filled with potatoe salad and broiled chicken! Disco was so harmless because you can't have gatherings with west coast rap or 90's grunge. Anyway back in 1975 when this song was released gatherings were fun! Then something happened in the 80's. The overrightous crew took over and gatherings were discouraged, except if bible games were to be played.

So 1975 wasn't a bad year after all, no armageddon but KC and the Sunshibne band ruled!

    Hi Forty,

Yes, the JWs were at one time a fun bunch. I started associating in the late 1960s ... we had baseball and other sporting events ... large gatherings at the park, beach, etc. Lots of food and even beer.

This was still true even after 1975, though it was fading some by the late 1970s ... then by 1980, the control-freaks at the Society decided to "Clamp-down" and started having every event monitored ... Directors of the Feast for wedding receptions, discouraging even no-score uncompetitive sports ... yeah, a scoreless football game ... then they discouraged large gatherings ... no beer ... and then, they discouraged collective Watchtower preparations in larger groups ... it has ll been a down-hill slide sine 1975 ... gald I am out ... thank gawd!!!

I always thought those ministerial servants looked sexy in their polyester leisure suits and platform shoes.

Suddenly, the powers that be cracked down on "grooming" and forced everyone to the local thrift stores (the ones that weren't demonized, anyway) to update our wardrobes to a more conservative level.

    Geez....I miss the 70s!

If you only have one, I imagine everyone was looking!

    (Sorry, couldn't resist!)
