Melting Lead On Hogmany.

Now this was a different New Years Eve.

Chris and I decided to do away with New Years Eve and, instead celebrate Hogmanay.

So, 2 days ago, we set out on the long drive to Scotland to see in in the New Year with Chris's elder brother on his farm near to Dumfries. It was great. Cold and snowy, but great nonetheless.

About 10 pm on New years Eve we set out to drive to Kircudbright where the neighbours light a huge bonfire on top of a hill. Around the bonfire were metal buckets containing hot mulled wine. Also present were strips of lead and a ladle for melting the lead on the fire.

Once the New Year had arrived, we busily set to work melting the lead in the ladle, one strip at a time. Once the lead had melted, each person took a turn at tipping the molten metal into a bucket of cold water.

The lead hissed loudly but quickly cooled into fantastic shapes as the cold water made it solidify. We then presented, each in turn, the distorted shape to a lady who could "see" from the shape what the New Year had in store for each of us.

So there you go. Englishman finally does see a fortune teller after having been accused falsely by the JW's 30 years ago of doing that very thing.

    ..and I just don't care!

Sounds pretty neat Englishman. I never heard of this type of fortune telling before.
