Not trying to steal any of your thunder, dear Aztec. Consider my borrowing your title to be "imitation as the sincerest form of flattery."

I went to the local (Sacramento) ex-JW meetup tonight. (NewWorldSlacker, where was you?) Only three of us showed up. Although we complained a bit about people saying they would be there and then failing to show, we three had a more warm and intimate conversation than might have been possible, had a larger group been present. Jennifer and Roy and I became closer in two hours than I would have thought possible. I expect we will all keep in touch (more closely/frequently, in my and Roy's case, since we already had one another's email addresses, but hadn't previously found much to talk about).

To those who have had opportunities to get to meetups, but haven't taken them, I highly recommend the experience.

Isn't it great to meet new people who understand where we come from, emotionally and spiritually? I've found the same to be true in my case, we've had a few meet-ups (with another one tentatively scheduled for this Saturday, weather permitting), and it's incredible how relaxed and at ease you can feel with a group of people who were previously strangers. Never felt that way at the Kingdumb hall!

Glad to hear you met new friends !

Mouthy, I sent you a PM on the subject.

I mentioned first names with discretion. The three of us are all very publicly out.

    Warm regards,

George, you're not stealing my thunder in any way. I love to hear meetup experiences and have encouraged many people to look into it. I met Outnfree because of it as well as Rational Witness and his wife, Pettygrudger, Obiwan, and a few others. I'm hoping to meetup with my childhood friend because he signed up on the Detroit ex-witness site. That would mean the world to me!

It's great that you got to get close so quickly to others. It's funny how much a common background can help you bond with others. Isn't it great? It seems as if noone else gets you until you find others who have been through something so similar!

Sorry to post the post about it & not show up, for the sacto meetup, I was feeling the waters to see if anyone was going, but did'nt RSVP to the site. I will most likely be there next month.

I'm not sure, in advance, whether I will be able to attend next month, but it is definitely something I want to do as often as is practical for me.

In a largely unrelated incident, I met another ex-JW who lives in the area last night. I connected with her some time ago via another forum, we have become good friends via email, and her attending the Grove gathering yesterday evening facilitated our meeting face-to-face for the first time. This person was raised in the JW milieu, but was never traptized.

    Warm regards,

    Cruithne
