    Hi all!

I just recently received an email from a friend of mine (see below), where she has asked for some advice. I have NO IDEA what to tell her or even where to direct her. I've found this site to be a HUGE help in getting pointed in the right direction. Do any of you have any suggestions???

Thanks in advance for any information you could share!!!

a friend of ours recently found out that he has brain cancer. he is about 36 yrs old, married, 4 kids (4mos to 9 yrs), just bought a new house and new car within the last year. his disability that he got through his employer is only going to pay him about $24,000 per year! this being said, they will be homeless. a dilemma they also face is that she cannot work outside the house for long periods of time, number one because of the 4 month old, and number two, she has to be home to take care of him. he can no longer drive or anything for himself, and he is sick! do you have any suggestions what so ever? are there organizations that help people in situations like this?

    Hey there Andi,

    This is a great place:

    http://neuro-mancer.mgh.harvard.edu/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi

    (sorry it's not clickable....*sigh*)

Virtually any neurological subject has a category and discussion group community on this site. There are sections for legal advice, SSDI information, support for families in this type of crisis... you name it

Mayo hospital also has an incredible online information center.... (it's like Mayo.com?)

There is also a National Head Injury Foundation based in Massachusetts... if ya google it it will come up.

My heart goes out to your friends and hope they find some relief soon...

    Hi Andi,

What part of the country is your friend's friend in?

This case demonstrates the value of both term life insurance and disability insurance. Young people (36 is young) can get this insurance rather cheaply, imho.

Our warm regards to your friend and to you.

Well, Billy, she can work, I have been since my daughter was 6 weeks old. I make a living that supports us and a house payment. I do it all without financial support from anyone and pay for daycare.

I would also apply for food stamps, social security, state disability and any insurances that they have in place.

Also, won't his insurance provide some sort of in home nursing? She could hire an LVN or just a lady who is used to caring for an ailing person, she could come check on him for a few hours while she is at work. If your friend works close to home, she could always drop by for lunch with her husband.
