Maybe this is goofy, but I was wondering, actually from reading the "Did Bush plan Iraq" thread...Besides the personal fantasizing about a Paradise on Earth, do you think the WTBTS has a master plan or maybe in the past has there ever been talk of such a thing? Sorry, just having a mini moment..*LOL*

    Valis,

I suddenly had a vision of a huge underground cavern (think of the film Deep Impact) which is filled as far as the eye can see with row upon row of lawn mowers, wheel-barrows and fruit baskets.

    Valis,

Of course they do!!! Don't you know it already?! Well, here it is, according to some of the most faithful and spiritually strong in the congregations I've attended:

"This is why we must contribute with all our material possessions to the constructions the society has going on; for there will come a day that we might have to take shelter in these same buildings while Jehovah and his armies destroy this old system of things."

I can't get the scene out of my mind ... thousands standing and listening to a brother speaking from a makeshift platform ... reading from a November Watchtower ... explaining that they are in a deficit situation and the various methods of contributing to the Society.

I once heard the following from a DO -- The society plan as if Armageddon is never coming but expect it tomorrow

They say everything they do NOW is for the future. The elder arrangement, the orderliness of the conventions, the building projects, etc....they're all supposed to show that the new system is right around the corner.....Personally, I don't think they believe in this fantasy. Their business ventures tell me so.

These are the same people who told us, back in the mid-1980's, that we needed to contribute for a huge educational center in Paterson, NY, that would take 10 or 11 years to build, because such a project was necessary to handle all the current and anticipated growth in the organization...

...and in the same breath told young JW's not to go to college because this system couldn't possible last long enough for them to reap the benefits of a secular education.

Back in the mid-70's they did a huge expansion of the Watchtower Farms at Walkill for magazine printing. All the while saying the end was near (remember 1975?).

I guess they were getting ready for the post-Armageddon printing of the "scrolls".
