The reason that I asked this question is that I wanted my younger son to understand why my wife and I were so attached to such an organization as the WBTS. By what we have told him of the beliefs held by the Witnesses he thinks they are crazy. I am going to have him listen to a tape that goes into to the "hope" that many of us had concerning 1975. I wanted him to see a large assembly and the influence that it can have in convincing one that the WBTS has the "truth." I guess my son will not be able to see the enormity of the District Assemblies that once was. All the better though, most of us back in the 70s knew what was coming anyway. A house of cards can not stand forever!!!

We believed some very incredible things as JWs. The average person cannot understand it. Your son will likely never understand it.
I think one of the hardest things about coming out of a religion like that is that when we get our senses, we can't understand it ourselves. We actually BELIEVED we were never going to die . . . just live right through a whole-scale mass world slaughter and walk in a big parade of smiling faces into Paradise. People who think normally just don't understand how we thought. -

Podsy, why not "immunise" him against getting caught in another cult in the future while helping him understand how you got caught at the same time.
Get hold of Releasing the Bonds See: http://www.freedomofmind.com/and have him read it. It will kill two birds with one stone .....
