Attention Hairdressers! Got a question for ya.

I realize cutting hair is more "art" than "science" but isn't there someway a hairdresser can give you the same cut each time? Some way to "quantify" the length the hair should be on the top, sides, back, etc?

I know this may sound silly, but I get mine cut religiously every 3-4 weeks. And I always use the same guy to cut it. It's one of these chic places and it's the owner of the salon who does it. My cut is a standard man's cut. But I like it a certain way, so that I don't end up with a haystack look because there's too much on the sides, or a scalped look because there's too little, etc. But I'll be darned if he cuts it the same way two out of five times now. I hooked up with this guy because at first he seemed to 'get it'. I told him how I wanted it, and he must have made mental notes, or something, but for a year or so it seemed about right each time. Now it's hit or miss. I keep going because I have come to know him and kinda like him. He's also good about getting me in for appointments. Of course, I always give him a nice tip. And I am sure he wants me as a patron.

I don't know, but do hairdressers try to keep in their mind, all of their customers preferences about length, type of cut, etc? Or do you need to tell them each time?

This is pet peeve #13 on my list.

No answers, but I was pretty ticked at my last hair cut. I have thick hair, so I said I wanted it thinned, layered, trimmed, with some face-framing. I swear, all she did was thin it a tiny bit and then charged me WAY more than I expected. She forgot mention that shampooing was $3, conditioning was $2, thinning was $5, blowdrying was $2, and so on until my charge - which I had expected would be the $14 listed on their price sheet - was $25. I was ticked, because my hair did not look ANY DIFFERENT. Last time I go there.

Sheeeesh. If you're going to charge extra for those things, SAY SO. Then, actually do the cut the person wants. Grrrrr.

    - Done venting now.

I've gone to the same hairstylist for about 12 years, once or twice I have gone to another stlyist but have not been happy at all. Jackie and I always talk about what my expectations are each time and she knows what I "think" I might like but really hate and will for instance not give me bangs even if I grovel. LOL

Your stylist should speak with you first, let him know that your don't like hit or miss cuts. I don't believe a stylist can remember what you want each from time to time even though you may go to the same person. I myself would never "risk" having my hair done and not knowing EXACTLY what I was walking out with.

I myself cut Thunders hair, I cut my son's hair for years (now he is a Marine so I don't do high and tights) Even though I have cut Thunders hair for years. I still tell him what I want to do and he claims he wants a mullet and I ignore him Sometimes I will leave a little length depending on if we have a Harley ride coming up or not.
