i remember the 1994 prophecy that failed!! i was in the shower just standing there (i have a wierd way of thinking), and i was 10 years old. I remember my mom never reading the Awake! magazine, so i think thats why she is still a JW. but something else that i remember, if my memory serves me correct is that one of my old friends dads killed himself. but for the longest time i couldn't remember the year. then it dawned on me that i think it was a little assembly in 1995, right after the year turned. I vaguely remember going to the assembly because i was sick that day. So of course i didn't pay attention, but i think my friends dad was a MS or an elder or something.... So i don't know if its a coincidence, or he knew something that nobody else in the congregation knew. Any way it goes, i'll never know. But i sure do think that it has something to do with a failed prophecy, and something that he understood.....
I remember.....

Carmel
I remember...one morning when I was 13, (had already decided to get out when I could) coming down to breakfast and the table is all set with a bowl of ceral. This was highly unusual as I almost always made my own breakfast....anyway next to the place setting was an open AWAKE! It was opened to an article on Masturbation, of all things. My mother insisted I read it! I was pretty darned embarrassed but started to read and finally put it down and told her it was "hog wash". Great argument persued and I left for school with half a breakfast.
Aw, those were the days...

Carmel......that is hillarious!
My son just turned 18 - of course we have had the "safe sex /or no sex (yea right as he rolls his eyes)" talk with him a few times in his life. I care about him and his health so even though it's embarassing - hubby and I have both talked to him about that subject. We have NOT however approached the subject of masturbation....nor do I care to! That's just not something a mom wants to know
This morning I told him that I wasn't prepared to be a grandmother for at least 15 more years, and I said "Don't forget - it's all about ME!" - he thought that was funny and laughed - glad I could break the ice with him in a way that still gives a gentle reminder to be safe.
But leaving an Awake for him to read AT the kitchen table....in front of me...geezzzzz.....
