Witnesses love to use the scripture at Matthew 24:9 where Jesus says that, " and YOU will be objects of hatred by all the nations on account of my name." as "proof" that since they are disliked by most of the world that they are in fact approved as God's chosen people.
Isn't it interesting that people "hate" Jehovah's Witnesses not on account of Jesus' name but on account of Jehovah's? So, technically speaking, Jehovah's Witnesses do not fulfill this prophecy.
Later in verses 23-26 it says this: " Then if anyone says to YOU , ?Look! Here is the Christ,? or, ?There!? do not believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will give great signs and wonders so as to mislead, if possible, even the chosen ones. Look! I have forewarned YOU . Therefore, if people say to YOU , ?Look! He is in the wilderness,? do not go out; ?Look! He is in the inner chambers,? do not believe it."
Jehovah's Witnesses have said exactly what Jesus warned people not to believe. "Look! Here is the Christ or There!" At their own admission the WTS has been fortelling since the 1870s that Jesus would return in 1874 then in 1914, kind of like, "Here he is! or There he is!". Since then, they continue to claim that Jesus has returned invisibly and is ruling. "Look! He is in the wilderness...Look! He is in the inner chambers..."
Verses 36-42: ?Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father. For just as the days of Noah were, so the presence of the Son of man will be. For as they were in those days before the flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark; and they took no note until the flood came and swept them all away, so the presence of the Son of man will be. Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken along and the other be abandoned; two women will be grinding at the hand mill: one will be taken along and the other be abandoned. Keep on the watch, therefore, because YOU do not know on what day YOUR Lord is coming."
Verse 36, "Concerning that day and hour nobody knows" is used by the Witnesses as when Armageddon is to happen. But notice that Jesus ends this thought with verse 42, "....you do not konw what day your lord is coming". So the thought isn't that we shouldn't speculate when Armageddon comes but that we do not know when Jesus is coming.
There. That's the most Bible Study I've done in at least 4 years. And I did it without the WTS publications and learned more by reading the complete chapter instead of a couple of choice verses taken out of context.
