Hours on the Doors

I wonder if people here could help me understand something (particularly ex or current JWs). I have heard that JWs are required to do at least 10 hours minimum on the doors to be considered "active". Although there do not seem to be any written statements in WT literature, to this effect, it does seem to be something expected (almost like a talmudic oral law!) Is this situation different in the UK or is it expected worldwide?

Don't know if it's worldwide or not.

The 10 hours is not needed to be considered active but it's the goal they promote for all JW's.

It stems from the idea of an average 4 weekends per month so 2.5 hours means you need to go out every weekend..this keeps you busy and out of internet discussion forums..oops

10 hours is also a standard they set for Men to maintain in order to qualify to be used as an example in the congregation. They do make exceptions in some cases.

It's much easier to be classed as a bad example to the congregation, all you need to do is not believe what the WT is teaching.

One Time I did a whole 2 HOURS one month!!!!!

The Older I got the more ridiculous field service seemed. I realized it was nothing but a show. To show the worldly people in their street clothes that we were serious and actually Christian, unlike the slobs that claimed to be chrisitian in their t-shirts. What fools, to claim to be a Christian wearing a t-shirt. "I'm wearing a 3 piece suit buddy don't try to tell ME you are a Chrisitian."

That 10 hours stuff was over 30 years ago. It was just a goal not a rule. Now if your elderly or sick they let you turn in 15 minutes in a month to stay active. They just want to keep the numbers up so they decrease the time you can turn in to be active.

It was always annouced how much time the average publisher in your territory puts in. It is usually around 9-10 hours in the states. I hardly ever put in the average so was always considered a "low hour publisher." (It was a "shameful" thing. I was a witness for several years when they instituted the "pioneer assist program" to help "low hour publishers." I was approached by an elder who recommended that I participate in this program in order to get my hours up. I complied and spent a month (well actually just a day a week) with a pioneer sister in the congregation. She shared a couple of printouts with me from the KM--otherwise it was the same old same old....

Written down or not, a good witness will be putting in a good 10 hours a month, especially if they want to be considered for anything such as an elder or servent.

If you are putting in less than the 10, especially in the low 1-5 range, you would be considered spiritually weak.

Talmudic oral tradition is a perfect way to describe 90% of what the Joe Wits believe and follow.
