I have observed among J.W.'s a relentless striving to reach an impossible "perfect" standard of performance. This often leads to a sense of lowered self - worth...It can also lead to psyschosomatic illness, a breakdown of the body"s resistance to illness, and even premature death.
The sense of guilt ( I can't do enough ), the threat of imminent doom ( Armageddon will be here any day now ), result in continual pushing of oneself beyond normal limits.
These factors all combine to produce illnesses such as ulcers, migraine headaches, heart attacks, and various and sundry other health problems......Professor,Dr.Carl Thornton...From Edmond C. Gruss's book The four presidents of the W.T.society. ( J.W's. )Chapter Nine page 114.This is also a quote from Jerry R. Bergman's J.W.'s and the problem of mental illness,1992.
Twelve years later and this is still an ongoing problem among many of members of the society, even those who serve at the highest positions. And yet the society publicy proclaims that they are among the healthiest persons on the face of the earth because of the life - style that they lead.
