  1) Write on a calculator the first 3 digits of your phone number (not area code)
  2) Multiply by 80
  3) Add 1
  4) Multiply by 250
  5) Add the last 4 digits of your phone number
  6) Add the last 4 digits of your phone number once more
  7) Minus 250
  8) Divide by 2
  
  Is this your phone number???

  My eight year old found that same trick on a kid's menu placemat at a local restaurant. It amused him to no end for days to perform those operations on anyone he could con into it.

  As an accountant (and sel-proclaimed numbers geek) I think it's a clever little formula.
