This may or may not help, so if you don't want to question everything you thought you believed about Jesus, don't look...

Especially look down the list of contents and read the section on Human scapegoats.

I have no axe to grind, I have geat respect for what we believe we know about Jesus. But remember these examples are mainly long pre-Christian traditions.

Also please excuse the very non-PC language, it is an old book.

    Hi Shirley,

Did you read Joseph Wheless' books? He also writes about this topic. Another good and more recent book is The Christ Conspiracy by Acharya S.

Hi Devon, I had a look at the Christ Conspiracy excerpts online.Very interesting.

'Mouthy', I also believe in the Creator. I just think it's interesting that there has obviously been some 'cross-over' of traditions and probably oral history, make of it what we will. Here's a thought.... to the making of books there is no end... most of the 'books' in the Bible were written after Ecclesiastes. No axes here, just an observation.Happy thoughts...

I'm with Mouthy on this. Interesting, but no cigar. Everyone forms their own beliefs through their own experiences. Out of that list on the website, how many of those religions/beliefs have had the sustaining power of Christianity where they can enumerate their followers in the hundreds of millions and even calculate our days by a calendar that starts at the birth of their originator? While I found the topic "Tree Worshipers" fascinating, I don't find too many of those people around (not counting the neighbor across the street who spends too much time in the garden). For argument's sake, another possibility, if the world is divided between good and evil, 'true' religion or not, then it raises the question of one being 'authentic' and then the other a 'counterfeit'.

I guess it boils down to each person's 'discovery' is their own, based on where their life's journey has taken them. I can't convince you no more than you can convince me.... and just maybe, that is an important part of life's 'puzzle' - nothing is static, and because of that we continue to question and search and move forward, one way or another.

My understanding is that Genesis is more likely a compilation of earlier works, hence dated well before Ecclesiates.

As with any theories about the dating of such documents, there's little consensus.

Better brains than mine have researched the evidence, though...

(glad to see you still posting, Meatpie. I was in all over the Central Belt, this week. We'll have to see if we can't get to meet up again in the next month or two )
