In a nutshell, do you suppose this might be true Mark? What's that then? Well, it seems to me to have been like this. What's that then? Well, you know when you wre born into the JW's, it felt good at times, yes, often, no? Hmmmm, yes, I felt secure in the knowledge that I was part of the one true organisation, aye, it felt good, though quite elitist now I look back. What's your point head?

Well, you know when you were younger you always felt as though no matter what you did, something so awful and dreadful was going to happen to you? Well body, could that have been related to your black wall of armegeddon that was pumped at you so much?

Ahhhhh mind, you've got a point there, I think I see your drift now. Aye, your right an' all, that's why I guess, that is yes, what it is all related to, even now. This petrified of stepping out into the big wide world, the unknown is my old harmegeddon gremlin raising it's head again. Make's me feel that something bad is going to happen, hmmmmmm, that still needs some undoing.

Tell you what though mind, and you too must have seen the positive benefits of this, that when you and I, mind and body work in unison, we don't half seem to get that much more done, and often you know, when we're working like that together in a real relationship with our self, our potential fears dissipate.

Yes body, I've been trying to communicate that to you for ages. You don't half drive me up the wall sometimes.

Friends said body friends said mind.

I think that's why research is valuable after you leave - it put's your mind at rest that no horsemen are going to come riding through anytime soon shouting about "Our Megan" (Armageddon)

Mark, look forward to seeing you at the BBQ, first pint is on me

I can relate to this....I'm always expecting bad things to happen.

Exactly! Even if you were "faithful" and survived the supposed Armageddon, it was going to be "by the skin of your teeth", just barely! It was going to be a wretched and soul-shaking experience, one where you would be grateful eternally to Jehovah for your escape from his anger!!

Yes, the organization with its Armageddon prophecies deliberately screwed with the minds of its followers, none more so than those of us who grew up with this stuff continually being sounded down crammed into our heads. Fear of Armageddon was supposed to be a motivator to "get busy" in the "Kingdom preaching work". And if you did enough of this "preaching work", MAYBE you may be saved through the day of Jehovah's wrath, so they said.

When we finally come to the realization that we've been manipulated and lied to, it feels good to let out our anger and disappointment here (or somewhere).

But eventually as Mark said, we have to move on and get out into the real world and make something of ourselves. We've got a lot of catching up to do, those of us raised in the cult of Armageddon!

A familiar theme for me as well.

I've always pictured "the Sword of Damocles", spent a lot of time

... waiting for it to drop ...

Powerful imagery, would like to get it out of my head permanently.
