And the rock badger, because it chews the cud but does not part the hoof, is unclean to you.

So then, what distinguishing behaviour do rock badgers have, that we should not eat/be like the rock badgers? Is it that they hide themselves among the rocks?

    • the rocks are a refuge for the badgers.
    • the badgers are a people not mighty, yet they make their homes in the rocks
    • Such are the paths of all who forget God (the goodness)..........he lives among the rocks.

Is it that they are afraid of God, and live among the hardened confines of rocks (hard and heavy rules / rulemakers), which provide such a type of refuge.

to enter the caverns of the rocks and the clefts of the cliffs, from before the terror of the Lord

While the hard rules may provide shelter, the rocks provide no depth of soil (other seed fell on rocky ground, where it had not much soil ) - one may stay among the rocks, but the seed of the Lord cannot thrive there, it immediately springs up with joy, but there is no root - only rocks.

    Will you hide among rocks?

Behold, I am sending for many fishers, says the LORD, and they shall catch them; and afterwards I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain and every hill, and out of the clefts of the rocks.

Also, what sort of trees do live among the rocks ? Those that strangle?

Trees (roots) that grow among rocks will, in time, turn that rock into soil.

Isn't it cool that orchids grow on rocks too?

(reminds me: God put Moses in a rock cleft too)

It takes many generations / many trees to change rock enough to help water to get in and do it's work.

Water is adsorbed at the outside of rocks (not the inside) - it is the water coupled with a micro use of rock that feeds a bloom.

From the first crack -- 'til there's soil -- yes, it takes a long, long time.

Thanks goodness for the day of small beginnings.

Another thing to consider is that soil is made of decaying plants and animals.

How did Jehovah get trees to grow in the single day after man was created on the second creation myth if there was no soil, but only sand or clay?

Oh, yeah, I forgot, he is god; so the first trees could magically grow without soil until they were seduced by a climbing ivy, then they died and produced the rest of the soil.

It might come to include decaying plants and animals.
