I think many become Witnesses because they are lonely and friendless cast off from the world the same-way the borg casts off its members.
The lonly person is not so interested in "Bible Truths" but is feeling good about themself because they have a Best-friend( There study conductor.) They have new friends visiting them every week telling them "How special they are"
They are given preferential treatment even Chauffer driven to the meetings where they are loved bombed. They begin after (Encouragement) to answer up at the Watchtower Study.....
All this is so much better than the miserble sad lonly life they were living... For the first time they are happy. This is the happiest time of there life only they now realise how miserble they were before...they become afraid that they may have to return to the lonly existence they came from. To keep the approval of best-friend (Study conductor )they clean there appearance to conform...next they quit smoking...eventually they qualify as an unbaptised publisher.
There is now a purpose in life and even when the love bombing slows and best friend (Study Conductor) has a new study and is not seen so oftern...It is still better than returning to a world that doesnt care and the lonliness that was unbearable.
As my success in the ministry was based on being (Study Conductor) best friend ... the moral to this story for me is all my frinds now are because I like them as people for who they are as individuals not because of any other reason.
Thats not to say I didnt regard those I met on the ministry as friends...Only if I was a real friend I would of accepted those people for who they were...How they dressed ...That they smoked the complete package...Great God the Watchtower made me such an arrogent fool.
