Okay, this is directly related to my earlier post with the guy's website. There are a bunch of witnesses at xanga (an online journal community). I replied to a guy's public entry (which was just a bunch of Watchtower crapola, and here are the responses. (My reply is first - I got the quotes from our handy-dandy Quote site, of course)

are you counting this as service time? If so, you should be ashamed of yourself.

The Society does not approve of spreading the Good News through the Internet: see Kingdom Ministry (UK) Sept. 2002 pg. 8:

"There is no need for any individual, committee, or congregation to prepare a Web page about Jehovah's Witnesses. Some have posted the contents of our publications with all scriptures and references given in full and have even offered copies of convention material on a donation basis. Whether profit is involved or not, the practice of reproducing and distributing publications of Jehovah's Witnesses in an electronic document is a violation of copyright laws. While some may view this as a service to the brothers, it is not approved an should be discontinued."
And KM Nov. 1999 pp. 3-6:

"Using Our Time Wisely: Another consideration in this regard has to do with the amount of time spent creating, reading, and responding to information posted on the Internet. Psalm 90:12 encourages us to pray: "Show us just how to count our days in such a way that we may bring a heart of wisdom in." Paul stated: "The time left is reduced." (1 Cor. 7:29) And further: "Really, then, as long as we have time favorable for it, let us work what is good toward all, but especially toward those related to us in the faith."-Gal. 6:10."

They call strangers on the phone, send letters to people in the mail system - strangers again - using obituary columns and phone books. They also go to bus stops, malls, and parking lots to witness to people. And of course they go to places of business and also to the peoples individual private homes - so why would they not use the internet as a way of sharing the truth ?

    The Watchtower.org is on-line also.

What would make this so different. ???

    I simply don't understand ....

How do they spread the good news ?

It seems like the internet would be an excellent
medium for sharing bible scriptures and thoughts.

The Watchtower and Awake magazines are on-line
    on the internet.

Maybe some people are just afraid of how efficient
the internet is in spreading the truth.

might be incorrect. I know of several people that
do witnessing on the internet and count the time they spend doing so - with full approval of the
elders and overseers of their congregation.

Also - beautifulstranger is incorrect - as the quotes
are old and no longer applicable. Jehovah's Witnesses do have a web page on the internet.
It's called "watchtower dot org" and I see that
you have links to it on your site articles here.

Also there is a group called "Jehovah's Witnesses United" that has many members sharing articles
    with the public on-line.

The only wrong way to witness to people is when
you don't...... Don't you think that Jehovah is
behind the preaching work? Of course He is -
And so is his son. These articles on here are
obviously praising Christ and show signs of divine
approval by the beauty and work entailed.

How would Jehovah not be proud of these articles ?

I am proud to see my brothers and sisters praising
Jehovah - regardless of where or how.

Okay, why the heck would 2002 be OUTDATED??!!?!!??!! Good grief!! I think all of these responses are from the same person, as their sites are all the same with slightly different content.

Any suggestions for things to say, besides the obvious that 2002 is NOT THAT LONG AGO.... duhhhhhhh.

Pretty soon, even literature hot off the printing press will be considered "outdated", and then the Tower will have entered the event horizon of it's own theology and beliefs, and then WHAM, there won't be a Tower anymore!

Cool! Good post, too! The hypocrisy is dazzling! Ask them to go up to the Circuit Overseer and tell him everything they've told you, and see if they can keep a straight face and pristine underwear at the same time.

Hehehehe. Dubs, they never cease to amuse me...I've been out for 5 years now, and still they give me a laugh every now and then!

Just another example of how rank and file JW's don't have a clue what their organization teaches. That is one reason it's hard to reason with them on anything.

I doubt this guy has the approval of the Elders unless they have no clue of the WTS stand. You can see why the WTS does not want individuals dispensing information unless they have oversight. The mags and books are printed my them. They have oversight of their web site. They don't want duds freethinking. If you turned this guy into the WTS they would shut him down...in a nice way I'm sure. Maverick
