We're watching this cable access program for "United States Atheists." They meet on Tuesday nights at 7:30. They have the ghostbusters symbol for their symbol and call themselves the bunkbusters. It was a riot! Tonight's show was about MEMES. and next week they will be telling a story about an encounter with a Jehovah's Witness on the airplane. I'll bet it was my mother...

actually it was a pretty good program. they had a sense of humor at least. They kind of chuckled when they flashed the symbol on the screen and said "bunkbusters." They were wearing regular clothes... not little white ghostbuster suits. I liked 'em.

They should do an atheist super hero comic book. He could fly through the air and rescue hapless citizens in the nick of time, from rabid foaming at the mouth, blood shot eyed fundies, by using logic and demonstrating his godless super powers. He could have his own ultra high tech lab, where he would reconstitute dead people back to life, demonstrate evolution by evolving monkeys into humans (or vise versa), scientifically multiply 7 loaves of bread into a thousand,etc.

The program sounds pretty funny to me. Is it more of a tongue-n-cheek kinda thing? It doesn't sound like they are taking themsleves too seriously.
And besides, as long as these guys don't kill anyone in the name of atheism, atheism will still have more respect from me than most organized religions.
USA = United States Atheists --- catchy. It's not that people don't take atheist seriously but many folks are in denial that atheists exist.
There was an "Atheist Bonfire" advertised in our local paper being held over at the beach this past weekend. We had called for info but when no alcohol was allowed we thought, what fun is an Atheist Bonfire without some debauchery? We'd planned on taking all our old publications over to add lotsa fuel to the fire!
What was the actual name of the program - we'd like to catch the next one.
Oh, they're serious, but they still maintain a sense of humor about it. I'm going to watch the show again. I sent email too, I want to make sure I don't miss the story about the JW.
